I had my photog take portraits of me the day-of (and also of my Darling Husband by himself). I don’t really see the point of bridal portraits. I grew up in TX, where they are the norm. Girls blow up poster sized prints from the session to post at the reception. Always seemed pointless and kind of….self-centered? Why do they need a poster sized print of the bride up when the bride is standing right there?! Also, I didn’t want to risk getting my dress dirty, or have to pay for hair/makeup twice…you get the idea.

I think bridal portraits are fun, but why not ask if you can make it a newlywed shoot instead? That way you get to do some extra pictures with Fiance and be a little bit more casual! My friend did them and she did the shoot in a different setting, had her makeup done, but she just straightened her hair. Her hubby wore his tux jacket, but jeans and a tshirt underneath.  Here’s a picture from her shoot

I feel like… if even you yourself don’t see the point in it, why spend the money? I’d take that $150 and put it towards something I DO see the point in… for me that would be a spa day. 🙂 Or an upgrade on my hotel room or more prints from my wedding day or…

@crayfish:  I’m glad you said that, maybe it’s a regional thing because I’d never heard of doing seperate bridal portraits before your wedding before coming on the Bee.

I planned 15 – 30 minutes with my photog on our wedding day to do “bridal portraits” while we were waiting for my Darling Husband to show up for our first look.

I couldn’t fathom paying extra for a photog other than what we were paying her for 8 hours on the day of, plus hair, makeup and whatever else necessary for the bridal pictures.

You’ll have plenty of pictures of you from your wedding day, don’t worry!

I did not like the way one picture of me came out, heck in one I looked like a blow up doll. So I’m thinking on our 1 year anniversarry I’ll break out the wedding dress for one more ride and have him in a tux jacket and jeans like the photo a pp posted. I think they are worth it
