    Yes, I'm doing them!

Yes, but I'm not doing them..

    No, what is it?

    No, I think it's pointless...

Never heard of them until I became entrenched in everything wedding. I guess its a fun idea if you want to have some extra time in your dress. I’m not doing them. I don’t see the point for me. I’m from NYC and live in Los Angeles now. No one does them around here – foreign concept. Plus, I would want a picture of me and my husband. I wouldn’t hang a picture of just me alone in my wedding dress.

It’s a big deal here in the south, but I won’t be doing them. I’m just telling the photographer to make sure to get a few of me right after I get dressed so I know everything looks perfect, not after I’m all hot and sweaty. I’ve never really seen the point of making a day just for that, it seems like too much work.

Now, the groom’s cake is also a southern thing, and I’ll be doing one for FH, but we’re going to serve it at the rehearsal dinner as opposed to the wedding. I don’t expect to have many guests and having two cakes at a wedding just seems like a waste to me.

@SouthernGirl: It’s really more common for the groom’s cake to be served at the rehearsal dinner where I’m from (south carolina). We will be having ours at the rehearsal dinner, as well! 🙂

I’m doing them mostly because they are included in my photographer’s package.  Also, both my mom and Future Mother-In-Law want one to display in their houses after the wedding.  I never realized it was a southern thing either until now.  I’m honestly just excited about being able to try out my whole ‘look’ before the wedding.

Also, about the newspapers…My Future Mother-In-Law just put our ‘engagement announcement’ in her local newspaper.  She sent me the online link yesterday because they mixed up the parents….like, it says Mr. and Mrs. (FI’s last name) announce the engagement of their daughter (ME) to (FI’s name), son of Mr. and Mrs. (my last name)…Get me? Kinda funny, but really?! Did no one read through that and catch that it made NO sense?! lol

I didn’t realize it was a Southern thing either, and we didn’t do ANY photos before the wedding for financial reasons, but on the wedding day my photographer did a few shots of me alone in my dress (after the ceremony) and we are going to do a “day after” type shoot (more like a month after) and she will probably get some more of me solo in my dress.  Mainly because I love my dress and will be sad when I sell it, I’d like a couple that show it in full detail! 🙂

But yeah, I’ve noticed that there’s rarely a groom in wedding announcements here in the papers, but if we do one, we’ll both be in the photo.
