You should definitely open your own bridal salon and offer a full range of dresses not just for the bride, but Bridesmaid or Best Man and moms too! My mom is kinda big and she’s been so depressed trying on dresses and there’s not the right size or undergarments kept on slipping. Do it!

I, too, went to a bridal shop that exclusively carried plus size gowns. It was an amazing experience. I felt like a VIP. I worked directly with the owner of the shop who was disappointed by her own dress shopping experience. She couldn’t even try on her dress. The shop suggested that her thin sister try on the dress for her instead?!?!?! So she opened her own specialty couture shop, and I was the lucky recipient of her efforts.

Sorry to hear about your bad DB experience. I had such a great experience there. They were really nice and helpful.

As for the dresses, they had EVERY single dress I wanted to try on, and ALOT of them were actually in my size. I must’ve tried on at least 20 dresses.

Maybe you just got a bad DB?

    Either way, sorry to hear.

I had a horrible experience also!! I literally got stuck in a gown!! they were too seconds away from cutting it off ot me. The sales lady forced me to try it on! The fitting toomwas tiny and hot and the dress selection was horrible. My experience also pormpted me to look into opening a salon just for plus size women!! We deserve the best just like all the smaller girls!!

@jalday01:  I’m a 36F and they thought a 36C would fit… pfffft. Nope. I’m actually a normal size everywhere else (8-10) but they were putting me in size 16s and of course (even with pinning) they looked like tarps on me.

I’m getting a custom made dress to save myself the hassle.

I went to Miss Pamela’s Bridal in Rochester IN.  I am form Chicago and made the drive so I could have a great experience.  They definately gave me that and I did feel special the entire day.

First lemme tell you that my experience at DB was horrible!  I had a few dresses in mind and the consultant said they don’t have it in my size.  I did try on a few dresses but my body started to itch (it’s polyester).  Trust me, DB is not FF-friendly.

Alfred Angelo was okay but needing some tugging here and there.  Almost bought my dress there but wanted to see if there’s something better.

The third salon (Bridals by Sandra in Nazareth, PA) was very helpful.  In fact, the sample size was bigger than me and needed to clip me in a few areas.  I didn’t feel like a fattie, I felt like a bride.  Laughing  Thank goodness I found my dress there.

I think it is great that there are salons opening for plus size women.  It really is awful that people can’t get a sense of how a gown is going to fit them by trying on one to small or large for them.

I would say that unless you are visiting a store dedicated to plus size brides, I wouldn’t expect a store to have a variety of foundation garments in your size (I’m not even certain a small plus size bridal salon would carry them).  My stomach drove me crazy, so I had to buy spanx to try on dresses to get a sense of how they would look.  But I would expect stores to all be respectful of brides in a variety of sizes, and to be very honest and upfront about the number of sample dresses they carry in larger sizes.

I went to two different local places and had a pretty good experience. My only complaints were that each of the consultants I had were a good 10 years younger than me(I’m only 29 btw) and how damn warm it got after trying on a few gowns. Granted, I’m not too big, but I do have giant hips and boobs and was still quite surprised when the consultants told me they had samples in all their sizes!
