I just recently got engaged & havent started looking at wedding dresses yet. I live in NYC- Queens. My mom is so ecstatic about this whole process & wants to go w/me to try on dresses. However, she is in a scooter full-time so I am concerned w/taking her places that’ll be accessible & comfortable for her (large enough for her to move around w/out getting in other’s way, bathrooms, etc). Any recommendations?

@henao98: First, congrats on your engagement!!!
As for handicapped-accessible wedding salons…hmm… I only went to two dress shops when I was in NYC (The Sample Room NYC and Mark Ingram Atelier), and both at least had elevators. But they were both REALLY tiny. I mean like, really really tiny. I would call ahead to the salons you want to visit and find out if they are handicapped accessible and whether they can accomodate your mother’s needs for manuverability and access…or if they could book you an appointment on a day/hour when there would be less people there overall, so you and your mom won’t be squished up with the masses. I don’t know if the bridal salons at the bigger department stores would be larger than the norm. Good luck!!!

I went to the White Gown in Brooklyn and Kleinfelds, and I think both would be accessible. The White Gown had nice big dressing rooms! Kleinfelds rooms are small, but your mom could hang out in the main room and have you come show her the dresses once they’re on.

- Wedding: August 2013 - The Liberty House
Pronovias is the only one I went to in NYC but I’m pretty sure it was! They have three floors of dresses and an elevator
ETA it was also huge
ETA2: Here’s a pic of the building, you can even see the elevator from the door

If you search NYC bridal salons on Yelp, it tells you which ones are handicap accessible. For example http://www.yelp.com/biz/demetrios-bridal-salon-manhattan
