My wedding is May 2nd, and my bridal shower is April 4.

I had a friend get married last year who’s shower was July 31 and wedding was August 25.

I think they’re usually about a month before, depending on holidays.

A month before would be perfect time — close enough to get all your guests excited and far enough away so that travel is not a burden. I think I’m out of the norm but I’m having 4 bridal showers and I’ve had to strategically schedule them in different months and cities so I don’t have any overlap.

Mine is April 26th and my wedding is June 20th.  I usually work during the weekends if I have an event going on so there were only a few dates to choose from that didnt conflict.  Plus one of my BM’s work with me so we couldnt do a Saturday because enivetably one of us would be working so I told my Future Mother-In-Law (whos friends are planning it) that it had to be on a Sunday 🙂

Getting married in October but having my shower in June since my mother-in-law to be will be in town from the West Coast.  My original preference would have been to have it closer to the wedding, but I wanted her to be included since she lives so far away and hasn’t been able to be very involved!

I’m not having one – anyone else out there who isn’t having one for one reason or another?

I think the rule of thumb is 6 wks beforehand (basically so your guests are not purchasing gifts for you too close together).  I think anywhere from 3-1 month before is fine though.

@ TennisSML5: I know 4 bridal showers seems crazy but I’m one of the last of my friends to get married and they are kind enough to take good care of me. I chalk it partly up to being Southern because for some reason we just seem to have more bridal showers and partly because I have 9 bridesmaids and I’ve thrown all but 1 a wedding shower.

We already live together, we have a lot of stuff, and I don’t want one more "party" that people feel like they have to attend. We are still registering so folks can buy us things we need for our wedding! I am just not all about parties, just me!

Mine was one week before my wedding–and I recommend avoiding that at all cost!! Even though someone else is throwing the party, it is still ‘one more thing to do’ during the CRAZIEST week of your life!!
