So backstory – My Maid/Matron of Honor and her mom have graciously offered to host and throw a bridal shower for me at their home.
My mom however is strongly against me having a bridal shower. She says she feels that its just a greedy grab for gifts and is embarassing. Every time I bring up having one, she just says its stupid, that she didn’t have one and that I don’t need one either. (I realize this make my mom sound harsh, but she is one to speak her mind, and this is how she feels about them. I respect her for being honest about her feelings on this topic.)
Now as for me — I’m not sure what to think. I think it would be nice to have one, in that spirit of “let’s toast the bride-to-be and her impending wedding”. Also, I like gifts, I’ll be honest. I haven’t been to many bridal showers though (if any) so I don’t know what really to expect. Who would I even invite? What really happens? Is it just a greedy grab for gifts? I’m not having a huge wedding, so I’m not sure if a bridal shower is really warranted.
Any thoughts on what I should do? I’ve been thinking of combining the bridal shower with the bachelorette party (shower in the afternoon, then do dinner and the bachelorette party, but that would be a long day for most people…)
