I think you can meet in the middle.  Since your mom is pretty much the hostest, just give her this and wait to show up after the guests.  You don’t have to act surprised (although I am sure you will still be when you see all who came to celebrate with you.)

I am not helping to plan my shower but I know where it will be and when and I pretty much put the guest list together.  But I don’t want to be there when guests show up.  I want to walk in a little late (maybe 15-30 minutes after).  I am also getting my hair and makeup done that day as well and I have a pretty fancy dress as well. It won’t be a surprise but it will be nice to walk in and have everyone see me when i come in, plus you can say a quick hello to everyone and then get the festivites started right after.

I thnk I changed my mind LOL.  It would be nice to be there once guests are arriving.  I think I will think about this for me as well, especially if my bm’s need my help setting up.

I’d honor your mom’s wishes and show up late. I’ve never been to a shower where the bride is there greeting her guests, but I also don’t think I’ve ever been to a shower where the bride is surprised or has really put much effort into pretending to be. So, I don’t think most people will think it is a true surprise, but I’d still show up later than them. You can get your hair and make-up done still!
