I have my first bridal shower coming up – well, its in August. My Future Mother-In-Law is hosting it for me and I am super excited its something I am really looking forward to. She sent me an email and included the Shower RSVP list, and there are 18 coming of a total of 48 invited. I live in Seattle (our wedding is here) and my FIL’s live in SF which is where the shower is. The majority of the ladies invited are are out of state so I totally understand they cannot attend.
My question is – – do you think a shower is dull with few attendees?

Hmm. I personally didn’t even want 18 people invited to my shower.

No – not at all! I think that’s a lot of people, actually. 18 is a good number for people to casually mingle with different personalities, etc.

@oracle: thank you – – that helps a lot. Its my only shower and in my head for some reason I feel that a lot of girls have two showers…I don’t know why I feel sad. I think because I don’t know a whole lot of the people as they are FIL’s close friends. Which, in turn is good because I can mingle with them here and then at the wedding I won’t feel too bad if I don’t get to mingle with them there.

No, not at all! It will feel more intimate and fun!

I would prefer a smaller shower. Both as the bride and as a guest. Too big and it’s so impersonal.

I know mine will be very very large, but I’m comfortable with that up until a month ago I thought thats how all showers were, but then I went to my friends where there were about 15 lovely ladies and it was amazing! It was just so classy and elegant and very fun. It made me wish I could do the same thing!

There were 14 women at my shower and I felt like it was the perfect size. I could spend time with each person there and didn’t have to worry about anything.

You girls make everything so much better – – I know that is written all over the place but seriously I don’t know if its because we’re all in the same boat or have “once been there” or what. I feel worlds different about the shower now…THANK YOU!!!

Glad you are feeling better about it! I had about 13 at my shower and I thought it was perfect. I wouldn’t have wanted any more people or I would have been overwhelmed. As it was, it took forever to open all of the presents! I’ve been offered a second shower by friends (this one was family) and I honestly am not sure that I’ll take them up on it. I had a blast at this one!

There were about 18 people at my sister’s shower and we had a ball. There were 30 on the guestlist but we knew most of the out of state people wouldn’t be able to make it. She was able to open all of her gifts there b/c the number was smaller so we all got to ooh and ahh over the nice stuff she got =)
