i had two at homes, one in my hometown and one in his… both lasted threeish hours? generally i’d plan at least an hour for eating, 30-45 minutes for gifts, and 30-45 minutes if you do bridal shower games. depends on how much everyone knows each other, too… both of my groups were well acquainted so there was a lot of catching up and chatting. 🙂

The ones that I’ve been to (plus my own) have averaged around the 3 hour mark (that’s food, games, present opening).

NorCalBride – I have hosted a lot of showers (I think like 8 in the last year). This is what usually works for me when I am ready for people to leave. About 5:30, if there are people still hanging around, just stand up and thank your hostesses and thank everyone for coming and say something about how excited you are to see them at the wedding. Then offer to help the hostess clean up. Most people will take the hint.
