I believe most people do it a month before the wedding, but we are doing mine just a little more then two months to go. I still think two months out is a great timeline.

Mine is three weeks before the wedding.  It’s a little closer than I’d like, but that worked out better for the hosts and it isn’t my decision anyway.  I would have preferred 1.5-2 months out especially because it’s in a town about three hours away from me (where my Future Mother-In-Law, several BM’s, and lots of friends live), so I’ll be away for the weekend just three weeks before the wedding (and therefore not accomplishing anything on my to do list!).  Although it’s a bit of an inconvenience for me, it’s a lot easier for the hosts and attendees and I truly appreciate all that they are putting into the shower.

ETA: My sister/BM and stepmother also threw us a couples shower over 4th of July weekend which was three months before the wedding.  I don’t think they would have done it that far ahead of time usually, but my entire family travels to their town for that weekend so it made sense to save people a second trip.

gandules:  You could do one whenever, but they are usually a month or 2 before the wedding.

I had 2 showers. The first was at the end of August last year (friends and my side of the family). It was the same day as my bachelorette party and, literally, the only weekend that worked for both. So, that was 1.5 months before.

The other one I had was about 3 weeks before the wedding, which was hosted by DH’s aunts/female cousins, and attended by other distant family of Darling Husband and friends of his family.

gandules:  Our wedding is in the middle of March so my Sister (MOH) is planning on having the bridal shower in January and the bachelorette party in February.

Mine was two weeks before the wedding! Super crazy but it was the only date that worked for my group.

Mine will be almost two months before and I agree with the others, 1.5-2 months before is perfect!

gandules:  Whenever you’d like and works for you. There is no “must”. =) Mine will be about 4 or 5 months prior to avoid winter weather and travel since I will need to travel to another state for mine.

My shower will be 9/19.

My wedding is 10/10.

My Maid/Matron of Honor are the hosts, but I think the timeframe is perfect.  I personally feel 2 months ahead (or more) is too far in advance.  3 weeks before is more exciting, IMO, because the wedding will be right around the corner.  Im impatient and having to wait 4 months after my shower until the wedding would be a drag for me.
