- Wedding: October 2012
So I just thought I’d pull together this post to give those of you with upcoming showers some tips and tricks on surviving the shower that I wish someone had told me!
- Hostess Gifts: I didn’t know until about two weeks before the shower that standard practice is to give the hostess(es) gifts! I had never received a gift for the showers I’ve hosted in the past so I had no clue, thankfully I had enough time to pull something together. From what I’ve researched here on WB a hostess gift is usually flowers and wine or some other token of affection. I went with a customized bracelet with my MOH’s children’s names I found on Etsy and for my cousin I found a really nice “Cousins” frame online that I put a favorite pic of the two of us in. Since they both traveled in from out of state I skipped the flowers, they both LOVED their present.
- Length Test: Make sure your dress is long enough when you sit down! My shower dress was adorable and I got so many compliments on it, but when I sat down in front of everyone to open gifts it’s just above knee length hiked up too short and they could see straight up to my undies unless my legs were crossed! I now know better for the next one to wear a knee length dress. (My first was with my family and friends, next month my FI’s family is hosting one for all their family)
- Safe Me Sign: Have a sign with your hostess(es) to help you escape getting trapped in conversation with a crazy aunt. My Maid/Matron of Honor stood by helpless and frustrated when she saw me get pulled in to a corner by my crazy aunt who gave me a whole lecture about us choosing not to have kids at the wedding! It was the middle of the shower! Afterwards Maid/Matron of Honor was like, I wanted to run interference so bad but I didn’t know what to do!!!
- Thank You Cards: I don’t know about you ladies, but if I put something off I forget about it, so that night after the shower I wrote out all my thank you cards and had Fiance sign them too. I’ve been getting texts/emails all week thrilled at how fast they got the cards and how awesome they thought it was that Fiance filled in a little note too! Example: I would formally thank them for coming and for the griddle they gifted and Fiance would write at the bottom, “I can’t wait to eat pancakes!” (He put silly little things like this on all of them and because they all know what a nut he is they LOVED it.)
Ok so there’s my tips, what other tips do you showered bees have?!?!
