I had my first bridal shower two weekends ago, and having hosted many showers, I was very excited for this first one. It was at my FI’s church in his home town. The only people I knew besides my Future Mother-In-Law were my mother and Nanna who came with me. We have a tradition where I’m from (almost every shower I have been to has done this) where the bride has to unwrap the gifts without “breaking” the bow. However many bows you break equal the number of children you will have. We also take all of the bows and make a fake bow bouquet for the rehearsal.
I started carefully and slowly unwrapping the bows and the ladies looked at me like I was some weird-o. We explained our tradition and they had never heard of it.
So, Bee’s, what are some of your fun bridal shower traditions?

We don’t have any traditions. Yours is cute, though!

The whole bow tradition has been used at every bridal shower I’ve ever gone to.
I didn’t know the part about the children is equal to how many bows you break.
Maybe it’s a northern thing?
I’m from NY. Maybe it’s only in the North east or something.

Every show I’ve been to has had the bow breaking & bow bouquet tradition.. and I’ve always heard however many you break is how many children you’re supposed to have.. I’ve become an excellent bow bouquet maker! I have no idea who’s going to make mine, since I’m always the one making them! Someone better learn!

@X0JLYNN03: How do you make your bouquets? I’ve never made one before and will probably be making mine. Any pointers/pictures would be very helpful! I have a ton of bows from just one shower
Oh and my first shower, I was so mad, someone knew how to tie bows very very well and I eneded up having to cut half of them. I think I came up with 14 kids.

@LovebirdsSC: I don’t really have any suggestions.. some advice though, make sure you have scissors & tape handy.. I just make a hole in a paper plate (classy, i know!) and as I get a bow I thread them through the plate.. or if there’s ones with sticky backs I stick them to the plate.. The 3 I’ve done, I just make them as the bride opens gifts at the shower.. so it’s a mishmosh of bows.. if I took them home, I’d be able to organize it a little better. I’m not that great at it.. I just always get volunteered to do them.. I only have pictures my most recent one.
Oddly enough, there isn’t any pictures of the bride holding it lol just me & other Bridesmaid or Best Man
