Fiance and I went to a bridal show a couple weeks ago, mostly as a joke. We had also aready decided on almost all of our vendors and have our decor and such already decided. And our decor is decidedly not like anything they had at the bridal show. Still, we thought it would be fun and our mothers wanted to go as well.

Let me tell you, we both found it miserable. If I had gone to one of these shows before we had decided on things and this was my intro into the wedding industry, I’d insist on a courthouse wedding or eloping somewhere. None of it was to our tastes at all and it all seemed such a big flashy, showy, materialistic mess. Not that I expected anything different from a bridal show whose sole purpose is to sell wedding ideas, goods, and services.

So we got dressed up very fancy (just for fun), paid our money, ate some free food, fought through the crowds, critiqued a terrible fashion show, hated on everything, and finally left with nothing but disgust and weeks worth of wedding spam in our emails.

I think you can probably avoid it.

@scottsouth:You know, I have to disagree.

I thought the bridal shows were totally worth it. Great food (at least at the ones I have been to) plus if you are still looking for vendors, they always have amazing deals going on if you book there on the spot. Plus you can actaully talk to the vendors and see if you like the person. We booked out Limo and DJ at a bridal show and I know on the DJ we saved at least $500!! Totally worth it to go in my opinion

I always thought bridal shows were a lot of fun. There’s always free food and usually some kind of goodie bag as you go in with snacks and freebies in it. I have about a dozen free razors courtesy of bridal shows! LOL! Go when they first open to beat the crowds or around dinner time if it’s on a weekend. I went with my sister and another Bridesmaid or Best Man and we had a great time. I’m pretty sure my sister and I will still crash a bridal show again this fall just for fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

The free cake is awesome. The fashion shows can be hit or miss. That’s about all. Don’t buy into most of the things ppl claim you “won,” they are usually a hoax. You can find some good vendors if you look hard and some of them will give you good discounts on their services from attending the show. Overall, if you already have your vendors picked they are not worth it (unless you love free food samples!) IMO.

I love going to Bridal shows! Eventhough I already have most of my big checks I still go. That’s where I get my magazines, I get cool inspirations from the vendors and goodie bags like bakerella said. I can’t say anything neg frm them because I won my video package from one of my shows, so I can’t complain.

@kappasweetiepie: Just go for the free food. That’s how I got Mr. Tattoo to go to the last one. We actually got some free stuff from some local bars that don’t expire until next year. So if I have my B-party at one of them, we will get free admission and $2 you call it’s until midnight. Also I think we would get two free apps too. Also, a lot of places give you coupons. We have free apps from Mad Mex, Bravo, Bucca de Peppo, Atria’s, etc.
Oh! And you get to play in the photobooths.

Mr. Tattoo says he will never go to another one though. lol

There was a bridal show in my area over the weekend, I was going to pass since I have almost everything done but, a friend of mine was a vendor and got me in for free. They had some giveaways, free food and cake, etc. and overall I was a little bored since I had most of my stuff done. I don’t have a bakery or florist though and I fell in love with this one bakery that just opened a few months ago. I scheduled a tasting with her and guess what? Since she was new and trying to get out there she had a raffle for 50% off a wedding cake and I WON! I was already pretty sure I would be going with her bakery just based on what she had available for me to taste but, now I get 50% off, which will make her delicious cake cheaper than our local markets cake! I say if you have the time to spare it is worth it but, if it weren’t for the raffle I won I probable wouldn’t have enjoyed myself too much.

@Miss Tattoo: SO true, the photobooths are a lot of fun!

Also, at the bridal shows around here, if you’re the bride you get in for free, so my sister and I always either sign up online both of us as a bride, or if you have to do it in person, she would take off her wedding band and say she was a bride too and we’d line up separately ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sneaky sneaky.

I’m kind of excited to go to one – I *love* free stuff!  How do you find out when they’ll be in town?
