MB Bride is kind of hit or miss.  With a good consultant, it’s amazing.  With someone who’s not so into the helping brides thing, (and they had a few the last time I was there) it’s kind of average.  That being said, they have a TON of options, and I was able to find several dresses that I loved for my first wedding.  That’s where I ended up purchasing THE dress.

This time, I went to Bridal Beginnings in Mt. Lebanon, and they were phenomenal.  I’d heard bad things from other plus sized brides about some snarkiness, etc., but they didn’t even blink when I wanted to see higher end designer dresses even though the samples obviously wouldn’t fit.  I purchased this dress there, and I’m so glad I did.

@mrsem2bee:  I also had an awesome experience at Bridal Beginnings.  I went there last night, and it was my 1st dress shopping trip.  Everyone was extremely polite and kind, and Lisa, who I believe is the owner, helped me with dresses and she was just great.

My best advice to anyone looking up bridal shop revies is to take all the reviews in, but don’t become intimidated or scared off my negative reviews initially- go to the salon and see for yourself.

I had a really good experience at MB Bride.  I went a few times to try on and had two consultants… I beleive Ashley and Meghan.  My seamstress was Susan and she did really good work.  Everything was really easy for me there.

Although I didn’t find my dress there, MB Bride was great. They have really personal service and a HUGE selection.

They can be more towards the “pricey” side, though. What’s your budget?

Mine was under $1000 and I had some trouble finding a dress there for less than that.

I went to Anne Gregory, The White Orchid, Bridal Beginnings, A Grand Day, and David’s Bridal. Of all those I would suggest Bridal Beginnings. They had the biggest selection and the nicest atmosphere. The consultant spent SO much time with me, I was there for 3 hours because she just kept bringing dresses! The White Orchid owner was really nice also but they just don’t have as many dresses. Anne Gregory was a nice atmosphere but they’re pricey.

I had posted a while back on another thread about my experience with MB Bride, and it was not as pleasant as the other ladies’ experiences:

“They are fine to LOOK at dresses but DO NOT BUY your dress from them. Find what you want there and order it from somewhere else. They have a great selection but most of them (except for my seamstress Jill, she was wonderful and not pushy and did a good job on my alterations, so for those who have gotten their dress from here ask for her) were not pleasant to work with.

They ordered the wrong length dress for me (I am 5’8″ and therefore definitely over 5’9″ in heels, which is they height at which most people recommend you order extra length for your dress) even after we asked them whether or not it would work with my height they assured me things would be fine. When I tried on my dress right after it came in they argued with me that I was wearing the dress “too high” and that was the problem, even though that was the exact same spot I wore it when I tried on the sample dress and no one said anything to me about it being too high. I thought I was supposed to be a bride getting married in a church and wanting to keep cleavage to a minimum, not a porn star who lets it all hang out, my bad.

They actually had tried to get me to order the same size as the sample dress which was already big on me (i.e. would already need taken in at least 3-4 inches which would have greatly altered the cut of the dress, but this was probably why it looked just long enough with the heels I had on since I was swimming in it) and I hadn’t even started on getting in shape yet as the wedding was a year a way at that point. We had to have two people from alterations come down to tell the consultant the sample dress was not the correct size to order, which they did. Thank goodness I stood my ground on this and ordered a smaller size because I even needed to have that one taken in a little bit.

Also every time I called (I had to change one of my appointments and called about picking up my veil for my run through) they were very rude to me on the phone as if I was greatly inconveniencing them. I mean, I don’t like having to reschedule, but sometimes in life things come up that we don’t expect and rearrangements need to be made if possible. You would have thought I was asking for a kidney though.

In the end they did give me a pair of shoes for free since I was having trouble finding shoes I liked that had a smaller heel (so the dress wasn’t too short) that was within my price range but they came back dyed a shade that wasn’t what I wanted. They did try to re-dye them and it helped a little bit, but it still was off.”

Good luck!

I haven’t tried either, but for any plus size brides out there, I would most definitely recommend Koda Bridal in Mt. Lebo. The owner (?) was kind of meh, but being to try on a designer dress in a sample size that wasn’t WAY too small was amazing.

hollysmith92:  The Exquisite Bride in Monroeville was WONDERFUL! They have a LARGE selection for being a smaller shop and the consultant that I had was absolutely wonderful! My mother was dying of cancer when I was picking out my dress and they offered to let me take the sample home to show her if I purchased my dress through them. They are really kind people!
