I know, it’s a really personal decision but I’m curious what music people have chosen to walk down the aisle?
I’m searching for something kind of different, nothing classical, from a musical or overused – I am walking myself down the aisle 🙂

I am walking down the aisle to "First day of my life" by Bright Eyes. I considered "Somewhere over the Rainbow" but the version by the Hawaain guy not the regular one. I think you can walk down the aisle to any darn thing you want to. Just find a special song that makes you think of starting your life with your guy.

Some friends of ours are in an Irish trio band and are playing our ceremony music. I’m walking down to "Lullabye of London" by the Pogues.

I walking down to "Grow Old With You" From the Wedding Singer movie. It’s an outdoor wedding that we want to be fun and personal, and this song just fit right in. We don’t have a wedding party, so we didn’t need anything very long.

I’m walking down the aisle to "when you say nothing at all", allison krauss. I love the song and it seems like just the right speed to make sure I don’t sprint to my man!!

The Hawaiian version of Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world is by "IZ" Israel Kamakawiwo Ole. I love that song. I think I’m walking down to Tell Him by Lauryn Hill or Angel by Jack Johnson.

What a great thread! Ive been researching other boards and sites endlessly for more inspiration for our ceremony music.
Right now – the leader for my processional is ‘The Guide’ by Bourne.

Before we got engaged, my fiance downloaded Pachelbel’s "Canon in D" from itunes, and maybe I heard it played at a wedding before or maybe from a movie with a wedding, but I always envisioned that song played by a musician when I walk down the aisle, so this will be our processional song.
However, while the guests are arriving/being seated, we’re not sure yet but we’ll probably have the musician play a lot of classical stuff.

By The Way, I should also mention we’re getting married in a Catholic Church; hence, we can’t use "Here Comes the Bride" (not that I want to, anyway) or any modern tunes.

My sister walked down the isle to Norah Jones’ version of "Love Me Tender." It was beautiful.

Wow everyone! These are such great songs. Kerry: if my fiancee was choosing my song, it would definitely be The Pogues.
I’m considering "Come Away With Me" by Norah Jones, "Ice Cream" by Sarah McLaughlin, "Butterfly" by Lenny Kravitz.
My absolute favorite that has a very long instrumental intro is "Pictures of You" by The Cure but the song lyrics are such a downer. What you think about the lyrics matching/not matching? When I listen to it, I think "This is PERFECT" and then I look at other people’s choices and think, well the lyrics don’t match but we are both photographers (2nd jobs) and we have opposite taste in music. The Cure is one of the only bands we love.
Thoughts??

@pinwheelspoprocks I think that lyrics don’t really matter to the processional song if it’s just going to be instrumental and isn’t super well-known. Plus, if the part that you love is the intro, then people won’t be "singing along in their heads" to it, either. I say if it’s perfect; if it moves you, do it!

I walked to "When You Say You Love Me" by Josh Groban. My back up song was Sarah McLachlan’s "I Love You". And if all else failed, I was going to go with "Up and Away" by the Dave Matthews Band. "Up and Away" is very untraditional, faux-reggae but is a really sweet song.

kim0309, "When you say nothing at all" is one of the contenders for our first dance song – it’s kinda "our" song. I just can’t make up my mind whether it’s danceable or not. That’s a really good idea for the processional though!
