I am back and forth and back and forth…help!!
Guitar version of Canon in D:
String quartet of Just the Way You Are
I can’t decide…will I regret doing something that is popular now instead of staying with a piece that is classic and timeless? Or should I be a little different?

i voted for canon (which i am using for my wedding). i have been picky about choosing songs that are too trendy and current for my wedding because i don’t want to look back and be like, “why did i pick that song????” and canon is timeless and classic like you said.
i do like how just the way you are sounds tho and it doesn’t sound like a “cheesy pop song” when it’s played by the string quartet.

@lilchicana: Yes, that’s exactly what I’m worried about! Most of our other songs are more current ones, but this one is super important! Thanks!

Are you having a wedding video of your processional? That’s the only way you’ll ever even have to hear the song again. I say choose what you love. I think “Just the Way You Are” is fun and unique.

Here’s my opinion but its purely personal. I first heard canon in D around 25 years ago when I used to play in flute ensemble. I loved this piece of music and as a young girl, always saw it as wedding entrance piece. Then … it was played at Royal funeral in UK and then I heard it at sooo many weddings it was untrue. I was really disappointed as I thought it was only me that knew about this piece of music..lol
For that reason I’d go for VSQ – I hadn’t heard this version and think its great. For what it’s worth I’m having a similar dilemma. I love classical music but it would mean nothing to my Fiance and I doubt he would even recognise anything classical I would choose. I’m leaning at the moment towards a song he knows but sung by a soprano .. something therefore that suits us both. I love Just the way you are tho, so now you’ve made be second guess my choice!

@AlwaysSunny: We will be having somebody videotape it…I think the problem is that I love them both! Haha. I do like the uniqueness…

I think Just The Way You Are 🙂

@mel801: I could not have explained it better myself! I played Canon in D years ago too, and I thought the same thing! But yes, it has become very overplayed. I’m glad to know you’re kind of having the same issue. Sorry if I made it more complicated! 🙂
@littlepossum: That one seems to have the lead…thanks!

I love Canon in D, and so far I haven’t found anything I would want to replace it with, though I have some songs that I like almost as much. What if you chose the one you really want for the processional, and use the other for the pre-processional music, the guests can enjoy it while they are waiting.
@MrsOrange: Love them!!! The Cello Song by TPG is one of the songs up there with Canon. I recommend them as well.
