First establish how many you want/need

Pick people who you know you can rely on. You’ll need your girls to be there for you.

Don’t pick your BMs based on who other people want (say your mom). By this, I mean don’t pick your sister if she’s untrustworthy or treats you horribly just because your mom thinks your sister should be in the wedding party.

At the end of the day the drama is what you make of it. Make your picks, stick to your picks and know this is your day and no one elses.

I would do the reverse order. I don’t think picking a number is that important.

List the people who are close to you, who you know would be happy to stand up for you.

Then priorize that list to a size that is suitable for the type of wedding you are having.

You can always opt to have no BM’s as well. There are no rules on how many you must have!

@julies1949:  Yes this works too! 🙂 I always knew I wanted 3, so when Fiance popped the question I already knew who I was calling. However, had I been starting from scratch with no ideas, likely I would have made a list first!

@busybee43:  Only have girls you can’t possibly imagine not being there. Less girls = less drama.
