@mrsmeyers84:  I thought it was totally worth it! I didn’t find my dress there, but I found a very strong contender: It was an Atelier Aimee, and they don’t sell those within hundreds of miles of here. The prices are amazing, there are a lot of accessories, and it’s a lot of fun even if you don’t find anything. But if they have early admission tickets available, GET THEM. The most beautiful dresses and the best deals really do go fast, and it’s like Black Friday trying to get into that center rack where all the couture dresses are if you’re not one of the first ones in.

I went to the BABC event in Denver and ended up finding my wedding dress for a great deal (gotta love the bargain shopping). Plus you feel good about supporting a good cause with your money!

I agree about getting the early bird ticket because it is really nice to get the first look at the dresses and not to be elbowing between people to find your dress.  I also took my mom and a few amazing friends with me, and they helped find and protect some dresses to try, and my mom helped me in and out of them in the back.

the people there were really nice and helpful and the stella and dot jewelry there is also amazing. they let you style yourself and then a pro photographer takes some pictures to see how your entire look could be. We ended up having stella and dot come to the bridal shower and since people bought stuff I ended up being able to get some amazing pieces for free.

all in all it was a great experience

TOTALLY worth it. I got my dress at a Brides Against Breast Cancer event and am taking my dress back to them for donation at their event this weekend.

Do they have veils for sale?  Sorry, I don’t mean to hijack the thread.  They just have an event in my town.

I’m going this coming Friday/Saturday. I can’t wait. They do have veils and other items. 🙂

I went to the first night of one of these events.  Things I learned:

-At the early bird event, the first hour is contests, raffles, passed apps, and meeting vendors, with no access to the dresses.  If you’re like me and care only about the dresses, show up just before the second hour of the event.

-There are few if any private changing areas, so consider that when picking your undergarments.

-This is not a boutique experience.  You will lug your own dresses to the changing area (and they will limit how many you can bring back at once), there may or may not be a volunteer available to help zip you up, and if you go during a busy time you will have to wait to get into the changing area and wait for a turn at the mirror.  There are crinolines and veils to try on with the dresses, but there aren’t a ton of them.

I went by myself and didn’t end up buying a dress, but I had a good time.  The early bird was crowded, but everyone was nice.  I saw some $$$$ designer dresses that were significantly marked down.  I would not recommend going to a BABC event as your first dress shopping experience because it’s very helpful to know what bridal size you are and what dress styles you like.  If it’s your maiden dress shopping voyage, I think the selection could be overwhelming and it’s a hassle to have to make repeated visits to the changing area with heavy dresses.

I just got engaged and there happens to be a BABC event in my area in a couple of weeks.  Do they have a good selection of sizes?  I’m usually a street size 2 or 4 and I’m worried it would be mostly samples that are too big to alter down.
