My sister from out of state is coming to visit in August and I very much want to go try on bridal gowns with her in town. Just for fun as I am not ready to buy just yet, wedding isn’t til July next year and I need to save a few dollars before purchase. I still want the experience with her because she probably won’t be able to come when I get serious to buy.
So has anyone gone to Brides by Demetrios in Lyndhurst or Catan’s Fashions in Strongsville? How was your experience? Would you recomend going? Strongly urge not to go? What’s the plus size selection at both? Last time I had to buy a bridesmaid dress it was a 24, probably a size or two smaller now.
If neither of these, where did you go? Just looking for a great first try-on experience with my sister. thanks

I went to Catan’s Fashions in Strongsville and had a TERRIBLE experience! My Mom and I were ignored when we went into the salon, and the dresses were, not well kept. I passed by one lady and she said the strap was coming apart. I understand they are sample gowns, but I would expect better presentation than that. Also, the BMs and MOB gowns are terrible! Maybe other brides had better experiences, but I would say don’t waste your time there.
I’m sorry I can’t give you a better idea of where to shop, as my Mom is making my dress. At DB, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve heard such mixed reviews, and I don’t care for their labor practices, but they were really nice to me when I went in to try on dresses.
I’ve heard good things about Nordstrom! Best of luck in finding your dress.

I’ve been to both places, but as a wing person, not as a bride. Demetrios was nice, but I remember it being expensive. If you end up buying a dress from Demetrios, use an outside alterations person, because alterations there end up costing as much as the dress. I had a good experience at Catan’s when shopping for a MOG dress. It was nearing the end of the day, so the consultants were nice and helpful, since they weren’t busy. My Future Mother-In-Law is a size 2/4, so we had a difficult time finding a dress since most of the samples were bigger sizes.
I didn’t buy my dress in Cleveland, but there are other brides who did. I would look to them for advice.

Easy choice! Catans!!!! Call ahead and make an appointment! They have a lot of dresses, and the staff is friendly. They also have good prices!
I went to Brides by Demetrios, and the dresses there are expensive, and just not as pretty as the designers at Catans (Casablanca, Maggie Sottero, Alfred Angelo, etc…)

@Pearberry: The same thing happened to me! I made an appointment and went to Catan’s in Strongsville with my mother… TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I told the consultant what I was looking for and my budget, she told me I wasn’t going to find it. Yet, somehow, my mom was able to find about four or five dresses that we liked. When we asked to try it on, she let us in the dressing room and completely disappeared. We had no idea how to put on some of the dresses. When we asked if she could help lace up a dress, she said there’s no point. Um, ok? How are we supposed to envision the dress fully. She had the nerves to come back nearly 45 minutes later and asked which one we wanted to purchase. She completely didn’t care and was a total snob. Um, no thanks. I will never recommend Catan’s to anyone! One of my bridesmaid was an intern at Catan’s when she was in college and said not everyone is like that. Sometimes you get lucky and get the consultant that actually likes her job or you get the miserable consultant that’s just there for a paycheck. Well, I know life isn’t fair, but they all should know how to treat customers.
We ended up going across town to Galleria Gowns in Willoughby and absolutely loved the experience. It’s a mother/daughter shop and they both were wonderful. It’s a small place and gets very busy, but they still managed to be VERY ATTENTIVE to everyone. The price was actually significantly cheaper than Catan’s.
