Ok, full disclosure here, I have been wondering where you were this week, haha.

Anyway, I picked the top option. I don’t think that the world will end if you switch it though! I feel that seeing dress detailing is a legit excuse.

Traditionally, when the bride is walking up the isle, her family is seated to her left, and the groom’s family is seated to her right.  Then, she stands on the left side of the officiant, and the groom is on the left.

Juliepants Yes, I would see what your officiant says. If they have a big problem with it, it may not be worth the fight. Fiance was in a wedding recently where the officiant was very adament about the man being on the right. (He didn’t have a good explanation when a groomsman asked why they don’t switch sides and walk down the “new” right side during the recessional…)

Hmm…I voted wrong! Sorry! I stood on my partner’s left, but everyone saw the left side of my dress. I think that’s why I voted wrong! So walking in, I was on the left and he was on the right.

Hey you alive?!?!?!?! So happy to hear that you’re here. I’ll be standing on the left side of hubby, not sure if that helps.

From “The Knot” – I had to share because I find the tradition kind of hilarious 🙂

“It is customary for the bride to stand to the left at the altar, though you may not be so keen on the reasons why. The tradition actually stems from the old days of “marriage by capture”, when the groom needed to leave his right hand (his fighting hand) — which he used to hold his sword — free in the event that he should need to defend his bride from other suitors who may try to wisk her off at the last minute.”

our wedding is not a tradiotnal one. there isn;t an altar as we are getting married on a sailboat… but everytime i have  imagined our ceremony I am on the right and Fiance on the left. So for us that is how it will be.

I am not yet married, but I have been thinking about this lately. I think I will be on the right side and he on the left. I know it’s usually the other way around, but I part my hair to the right and for photos I want to see my face not my hair. 🙂

Besides I am ALWAYS on the right side since he is left handed and I am right handed. I always sit on the right side of him when we have dinner, I sleep on the right side, I usually stand on the right side when we walk… etc

My mom got married last October, and I realized later that she stood on the right not the left. I then looked up the traditional reason and saw what @MsMindle wrote, and then asked my mom if there was rhyme or reason as to why they stood the way they did. She just said, “When I walked up the isle John was already on the right so where else could I go?” LOL (they didn’t  have a rehearsal.) I will probably stand on the left, you know, so Fiance can draw his sword if needed.

Hey, I was thinking about this, too! I’d prefer to stand on the right because my left side is my good side. Whenever Fiance and I are out somewhere, I’m always on the right anyway.
