My guest photos have only just started to trickle in (no pro pics yet) and most of them are ghastly shots of me so I really hope the photographer’s are better. A lot of it comes down to me just not liking the way I looked – if I could have my time again I would have put more effort into losing a couple more kilos and toning my arms more and I would have gone to the gym instead of working like a demon to prepare for my time off work on our honeymoon ☹️ I’m definitely not saying to lose weight if you are comfortable the way you are (and looking at your profile pic, you should be very happy as is!) but I think it would have helped me now to at least know I’d done everything I reasonably could before the wedding to improve the areas I dislike in the photos.

I’m a geeky girl who looks like… well, like the geeky girl I am in most pictures. I hired a photographer who does a photojournalist style of photography and ended up liking quite a few of the pictures! They looked natural and captured the good energy and emotion of the day.

When I look in the mirror I’m like hey cute stuff, when I see a photo of myself I’m thinking who is that awkward looking creature. 🙈 And when I have to pose and smile its just weird. Worse time for both of us was all the forced smiling and posing but we got through it. Its a mix with our photos. I loved a few, really liked a lot and then there were a couple “I’m immediately deleting these from the drive, no one needs to see this.” But thats still a lot better than I expected.

IMG_9735.smallI don’t like how I look in photos but our photographer made me feel so comfy it was easy.  I also had pro hair and makeup, had my face waxed (highly recommend) as I usually do eyebrows but went for an upper lip and chin wax as well – better photography will show every hair, no matter how blond and fine.

I mean, my passpoer photo looks like I am being booked at the jail.  (I was not, btw) so I was a little nervous.

Kristin June :  I’m usually painfully awkward when other people take pictures of me (except my husband, but that’s just because I’m so comfortable around him and he’s been trained in the art of Instagram-husbandry haha). I hate my teeth, I hate my smile, I don’t know what to do with my face, I don’t know how to pose. Thinking about our wedding photos was one of the most terrifying parts of wedding planning for me. I was convinced I would look awful because we hired a documentary-style photographer, so I couldn’t even rely on pretty posing.

BUT by some miracle I absolutely LOVE almost all my wedding photos. And I think the only reason (other than my photographer was obviously some kind of miracle worker) was because I looked happy. I was so overflowing with joy that I smiled my awkward smile that I’ve always hated my whole life, and still I absolutely love my wedding photos. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I think I look perfect in my wedding pictures. Looking back, I wish I had done some of my makeup differently, I still see flaws in my homemade dress, in some pictures I feel like I look horrendously fat, my hair started coming undone near the end of the night. But the joy that shines through helped me to get past those things.

So I guess, my advice is to focus on the moment, focus on the happy occasion of your marriage, and if you are comfortable and happy, that will show in the pictures.

(Some pictures from my wedding that by all means should have looked horrendous but somehow I still love:

So if I allow myself to nitpick, I hate a lot of my photos. If I take a step back and see how happy we all were and what a great time we had, then I love them. We definitely stayed away from posed photos.
