Hey bees! I believe I’ve found my wedding dress! It’s simple, and in very soft lace (pic below for reference). Now I’m trying to decide on bridemaid dresses. If you have/had a similar dress in all lace, what are you doing/did you do for bridesmaids? Pics would be much appreciated!
I’m letting my girls choose their specific style, but I want uniformity in floor length and the same fabric and color, so fabric is the main thing I’m having trouble deciding. We’re getting married in a rainforest setting, and I want to have them in ice blue which I think will look amazing against all the greenery, and I want it to be an ethereal, soft, and romantic look, so I was gravitating towards chiffon/mesh, but then my mom said that she doesn’t think the fabric will look right with my dress, so now I’m not sure how to create a similar look. I definitely don’t want anything too structured for them.

I didn’t have lace but like you was keen to make sure mine and there’s went together. I personally disagree with your mum, chiffon is “light” like the lace. My SIL who had lace went to pale blue with a navy lace overlay which was pretty.

I think there is something to be said for having the style feel consistent but personally I don’t get when brides go beyond that, trying to match the details or silhouette. I have lace appliqué and I’m doing chiffon. Could you ask your mother specifically why she thinks your choices won’t go? The only thing I can figure looking at your dress is maybe the lace and silhouette make it read more casual/laid back than your average wedding dress and she’s afraid chiffon could look to formal next to it?

My dress is lace! I let my bridesmaids choose their dresses. I only asked them to be somewhat the same shade of burgundy and floor-length. So I’m going to have a bit of a mix and match, but most of the dresses are chiffon.

Mine was lace but A line and heavy. The MoH already had a gorgeous blue floral knee-length satin dress, so I asked her to wear that. The other bridesmaids wore knee-length dresses too, but in different blues that each picked out one of the flower blues in the MoH dress. Only the length and colour palette matched. Fabrics were all different, including one in chiffon. I thought it looked great and we got nice compliments.

I think chiffon would look fine with that! I also think cotton tea length summer dresses would look great, but you may not want to go in that direction. Cotton eyelet lace would be nice too. Can you go try things on with your moh or one bridesmaid, and bring your dress so you can see how y’all look together?

Go back to the shop where you found your dress, pull the sample, and hold it next to several different styles/colors/fabrics of bridesmaids dresses.

My dress is all lace, champagne color. My bridesmaids are wearing plum chiffon.

My bridesmaids wore chiffon. The lace bridesmaid dresses looked odd with my dress – like we were trying really hard to match but couldn’t quite get there.

Thank you bees! That is all very helpful. I was really set on soft and flowy chiffon before my mom got in my head, so it’s great to get some validation on my vision haha. I think I’ll go with the original plan then!
Souzie : Thanks for the photo, that helps! And your wedding looks like a dream <3
