I think you have to find out what your friend is wearing, and what the dress code of the wedding will be. If she is wearing a ballgown and it is a formal dress code, then no. That dress is not too much and would be lovely.  If she is wearing a sheath dress, and everyone else there will be in cocktail dresses, then yes, it is definitely too much.

What a stunning, lovely dress! It would be absolutely beautiful in a sage green … *drool*

I think it would be perfectly appropriate for a more formal wedding. If it’s on the more casual side, you might be a tad overdressed – but *gorgeous.*

it would be fine for a black tie wedding, cocktail or casual it would be a bit too much, but it is definitely a gorgeous dress!

If it’s a very formal wedding, it will be perfect in another colour (especially green in my opinion). Gorgeous dress!

I think for a wedding in a castle you are probably safe!

If you have any lingering doubts, though, you could show your friend a picture and say, “I was thinking of wearing this dress in green/lilac/whatever to your wedding. Do you think it will be appropriate for the event?” She will know, and it’s her opinion that matters most.
