Some brides do.  I’m on the same wavelength as you though.  I wouldn’t tell mine how to do – or what they can/cant do – with their hair and makeup.

MechEBee:  same happened to me– my Bridesmaid or Best Man asked me if she could put pink in her bangs– I said go for it! It’s her hair and I don’t mind!

MechEBee:  Ha, when I saw the title of this thread I was totally expecting a Bridezilla “how dare she ruin my photos” rant! Go you for caring about your friend and not being superficial! It’s nice of her to check though. If you had said no, would she have waited until after your wedding?

Yes, some brides do think they have a right to dictate how their wedding party looks. It’s over the top.

When my cousin was engaged, his Fiance asked his sister and me to be bridesmaids. Of course we accepted! Planning didn’t go well, and I had to back out because the wedding was only a few months away, they didn’t have a venue picked, no exact date (other than may 20-something…literally the date they gave us), and they were a 5 hr plane ride away-I told them I needed a minimum of 4 months notice to purchase plane tickets). After I backed out, the bride told my cousin that she wanted BLOND bridesmaids, and to bleach her hair. Umm…the bride is olive skinned with jet black hair, and my cousin (along with all our family) is pale and brunette. Had I not backed out, she would have also requested this of me. Luckily, they just went to the courthouse. We were all pretty floored by her idiot request.

MechEBee:  Hah! I was asked 2 weeks ago by a bridesmaid if she could chop her hair off.  uh, YES.  I laughed.  I didn’t care how the girls wanted their hair done, but I’m paying for it.  So I only said, “You can do whatever you’d like.  It’s your hair!  Just let me know if you cut it so short that you’d prefer to style it yourself that day so that I can cancel your hair appointment.”  I actually had a brief inner moment of “if she chops her hair off, it’ll save me $65….”  hahahaha

LOL I would have laughed and been like, if you want to have pink hair, that’s your deal! But, at least she seems super considerate, a lot of people go do weird things pre wedding without caring about the effect it will have on the wedding or how the bride will feel about it.

My friend dyes her hair different colors all the time. Asking her to be my bridesmaid, I expected that she’d do it, and she did, purple underneath and bleached out almost white on top. She looked awesome. I would never have asked her not to do it, it’s just part of who she is and that’s why I love her.

MechEBee:  Some brides care about all kinds of weird things, but I’d say that most normal brides pick their friends based on friendships, not hair color lol.

I think she’s just being super respectful of you. I wouldn’t look at it like, “WOW, brides are like this!?” Some, maybe, but I would guess that your friend wants you to be happy, so she wanted to make sure you didn’t mind. I had a bridesmaid do the same thing for me – I told her to dye her hair however she wanted! She looks great no matter what.
