I’m a lot stressed out. My bridesmaid has been planning a surprise bachelorette party for me for MONTHS. Possibly an eNoire year. its this weekend, and I’m so excited! I found what it is this last weekend, and it’s a great plan and I’m truly looking forward to it! However, she bought me an outfit for it, and the outfit doesn’t fit. At all. I tried to take it to seamstresses to get altered, but it couldn’t be done in time according to the 3 I took it to. So, I borrowed an outfit similar from a friend.
when I told her it didn’t fit, but that I LOVED the thought, she immediately snapped “you have to wear it! Can’t you leave it unzipped?!” I was kind of taken aback. It’s uncomfortable, and looks bad because it’s so ill-fitting. I’ve expressed multiple times how much I love the thought, care and time she’s put into this, but shes texted me multiole times about how I have to wear it. when I talked to my Maid/Matron of Honor about it, she said this bridesmaid has been very controlling over the whole party.
What do I do now? Im worried she’ll make little comments about the outfit all night if I dont wear it, but I don’t want to be choked by a too-tight neckline all night either..

You wear the outfit that you picked out. It’s your party!

Is it like fetish-wear? What kind of an “outfit” would she buy you that is so hard to replicate?

Umm, no. You definitely don’t have to wear something that doesn’t fit to your bachelorette. If she makes comments, just ignore her.

HannahGrace: its just a costume, but a specific one

Can’t you return it for the proper size?
I cannot imagine asking anyone to wear an outfit that they would have to leave unzipped in order to have it fit or would be uncomfortable in.
Wear your own outfit and explain that you would’t want her to be uncomfortable, so why shsould you be!

rachaelam: Wear what you want to wear. Picking out an outfit is a little too much. Especially that she asked to wear it unzipped!!! WTF? I have never heard of someone asking that of someone else in my life! Who in their right mind would want to go out and wear an outfit that is unzipped and ill-fitting! This is your party, you should be comfortable. Scratch that, regardless if it’s your party or not ~ you should be able to wear an outfit that fits you without feeling bad about it.

Ellicott: I don’t think so, because it was apparently purchased like 6 months ago.

rachaelam: Whenever she says you have to wear it just ignore her, if she makes a bad comment tell her straight up “I like this outfit and want to wear it”. It is your day, and she needs to get over it.

rachaelam: She sounds a bit out of her mind. I’m sure she was really proud/excited to get the costume for you so maybe her ego’s just a bit bruised that she messed up your size but the normal, adult reaction would’ve been, “Oh, no, OP. That sucks, I should’ve double-checked what size you need. No worries, wear whatever you feel BEST in.” She kind of lost credibility when she said to wear it unzipped because 1) you’ll probably have a wardrobe malfunction and 2) her pride is not worth you being uncomfortable on your bachelorette.
Wear whatever you want and enjoy your day. If she says anything, offer to give her some cash to cover the cost of the costume but you’re wearing your outfit choice.
