She should definitely be willing to order it — if it doesn’t fit right away, she can have it altered.  Maybe she can’t afford it — has she said anything about being tight on cash?

@mmfit323:  $50 should be affordable in most cases . . . bridesmaids (in the US) know they are going to have to pay something, and $50 is really, really cheap as far as these things go.

I would put my foot down.  Say you noticed she mentioned she wanted to get a dress elsewhere, but this is where you have chosen to have your girls get their dresses, and perhaps ask if there is any reason why she is hesitating that she hasn’t told you.

To me, it sounds like she might be worried about the dress being unflattering. Maybe she can pick a few styles she likes from the website, then go to someplace like David’s Bridal to try on similar styles to see if they look good.

Have you ASKED her why she doesn’t want to order it? Maybe she had a bad experience ordering a dress online and she’s afraid it’ll happen again.

I ordered my wedding dress online after trying it on in the shop– the floor model fit me perfect, so I ordered the same size… Well, when it arrived I was about 4 inches from fitting into it. I am visiting the seamstress tongith to see what my options are, but honestly if someone told me I had to order a dress online right now I’d be pretty hesitant too.

I would talk to her first, and see if she can explain her hesitations, she might have a good reason. And as for the $50-150 thing– there are plenty of people where $50 can make or break their budget, so don’t rule out that possibility too.

She’s probably worried about something not fitting right or being unflattering and wasting money on a dress she hates.  I’m always iffy with ordering clothes without trying them on first.  Also, if you’re only requiring color and fabric I don’t see what the big deal is that she doesn’t order from the on-line retailer.

I’m guessing they don’t let you return the dress if it doesn’t fit well? If so, perhaps she could order a couple, try them on, and then send the ones back she doesn’t like. But I’m guessing as you’ve said they do custom sizing, this might not be an option?
