OK so I have a variety of girls in my wedding party. I have two matrons of honor (my 2 older sisters– 8 & 10 years older) and then 4 of my best friends (ranging from a size 2 to a size 18), and my 8 year old niece as a Junior bridesmaid. We’re having a pretty formal evening wedding, and my bridesmaids will be wearing black. I’ve always liked the idea of having the bridesmaids wear different styles in the same color & fabric, but I always envisioned my bridesmaids wearing wearing the same dress! But now I feel that I have such a large age & body style range, maybe letting them choose their own styles (with restrictions!) may be the best way to go. And besides, what my crazy party-girl best friend might want to wear is DEFINITELY different than what my older, mother-of-2 sister would want to wear.
One of my bridesmaids owns a formalwear shop, so she has agreed to give my bridesmaids their dresses at cost, but she only carries 2 bridal lines. After perusing the web & looking at the lines she carries, I found one that I think may suit everyone in the party, and I feel that it would be flattering on all shapes. What do you guys think?

I like the dress in the pictures, but I’m not sure if the empire waist would look nice on everyone.

I think it is nice to have different styles as long as the color and fabric are the same. I tried to let my girls choose their own, as long as it was black, and it was a disaster. I have seen it work very well for others, esp. when the fabric and designer or color are unified. (It also depends who you are dealing with, one girl had very different ideas about what was appropriate :/)

cbee… Yeah! That’s what I am kinda concerned about. I don’t want to seem like a control freak, but I definitely want to “approve” the dress before it’s purchased. That’s why I’m glad my friend has the store, they can go through her & she can come to me for approval before ordering. Sounds foolproof, but we’ll see!

I had originally planned on having my girls wear different dresses as long as they were from the same designer, fabric, colour. It ended up being such a mess and the most stressful wedding related thing I’ve done so far. But luckily at the end they all ended up agreeing on the same dress, which oddly enough is almost identical to the photo you have.
My girls range in size quite a bit too and it was flattering on all of them. The one shoulder makes it fun and youthful without being too trendy, and the shape is flowly and comfortable while still flattering for people who don’t want to be in a really fitted dress.
It worked for me and my BM’s so I definitely vote for it for your group too 🙂

I’d pick one of the two lines that your friend’s shop carries and decide what length and material you want. Then tell the girls they can get any ex. Black tea-length, satin dress from line XYZ and let them pick!

I’m letting them choose as long as it is a certain color and length. Other then that I am letting them have free reign. I would hate for someone to tell me what I have to wear. I like the dress you put a picture of and I would wear it but if that was the only option I probably wouldn’t like it as much.
