If your venue has any specific colors that you’re stuck with (e.g. in the carpet or walls) I’d say try to work with / around that.

Otherwise, if you’re not too picky about the color, I think it’d be better to find the style first and then pick an available color that you like.  Most dresses come in purple 🙂

Another option is to go w/ something more neutral (black, gray, brown, etc.) and incorporate purple with the flowers.  That way they might wear it more after the wedding.

I love purple – ALL shades of purple.  There was no way I could make up my mind choosing one shade of it.  I decided to go with mismatched dresses, all in different shades of purple.  I did stress a bit over making sure that everyone was in a different color, but I think I’m really going to love the end product.  I’ve seen pictures where this has turned out AMAZING – all different colors, sometimes even different lengths and fabrics!

Here are some of my favorite pictures I’ve found:  (sorry if they are a little big, this is my first time posting)

@laurenm78:  What did you decide to do with the men if you ended up going with the mix of purples?

@skyblueme:  This was a tricky one.  But we ended up having a shade of purple that I loved that I couldn’t work into the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses – it’s kind of a “regular” purple, but not royal purple – so we decided that all the men will be wearing that color, which will complement all the girls’ dresses.  I’m actually really excited about it!
