Although this is my first post, I have been scouring the boards here since I got engaged — you bees are a wealth of knowledge!!
So far, I am having trouble stomaching the thought of spending $1000 (or more) on a wedding dress. It’s not that I can’t afford it exactly, more like I just can’t justify spending that much on a dress that I will be wearing for a half a day. I totally understand why a bride would want those beautiful expensive dresses, and I am sure that they all look gorgeous, but I just don’t think that’s my style.
I saw a few posts about bees wearing a bridesmaid dress in ivory rather than a traditional bridal gown, and I was just wondering if anyone has actually done that. And please, if you have any, I would love to see pictures!! I think the hardest part is trying to picture the bridesmaid dresses I am looking at in ivory.
I think one of the biggest benefits of doing this is that I could afford a dress from a higher end designer that uses quality fabrics for a fraction of the price. Right now my favorites are all from the Jim Hjelm Occasions line: 5926, 5824, 5784, and 5830. I am looking for something v neck and floor length, but a sweetheart neckline would also work if I could have straps added by a seamstress.
Any feedback from you ladies would be greatly appreciated — what designers to look at, any certain styles, benefits, drawbacks, experiences, etc….Thanks for your help!!!

I originally thought about that. I see no issues in it if its what you will be happy with. I looked at mostly alfred angelo since there is a large selection and a store nearby and you can change the color in the photo. Most are under $250 too. Talk about bargain!!
I’m a fan of this one:

I used to work in a Bridal Salon and once in a while we would have a bride come in and order a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress for her wedding gown, generally though it was the brides second wedding or destination wedding. There is an amazing blog post out there on sample gowns. Apparently there is a place in Virgina called Church Street birdal (I think) and they get Klienfelds sample dresses, which they intern sell for between $350 and $750…somethng you may want to check out. And in the mean time I have found the blog post.
Hope this helps!

I actually wore Jim Hjelm 5784 in ivory for my wedding gown in 2009. I loved it! See photo below. I actually have a brand new (with tags) size 8 that I am trying to sell. I ordered two different sizes and did not use this one. Let me know if you are interested! I highly recommend going the simple dress route. I loved my dress and I got SO many compliments on it!
