Light will reflect differently off different fabrics but if they all order the same color from the same manufacturer, the dresses will all go together.

I say definitely pick the fabric. Even if they are in the same color, they will photograph differently in different fabrics.

Yes definitely pick the fabric. A fabric like satin will be much more saturated with color than a fabric like chiffon. You could even compare the fabric swatches and maybe offer a couple of fabrics that look like they match perfectly if you want.

@TinyTina: I think if you do a color like black you could do different designers, but other than that, you might not get the look you want. 6 different shades of red may look a bit off.

The issue with using different designers is that the fabric is not from the same lot.  Though it could say cerulean blue on both dresses it rarely turns out to be the same blue.  Some may have more green, etc.

I think everyone else got it right with same designer, same color, same fabric.  🙂

If you haven’t already, I would check out JLM dresses (Jim Hjelm, Alvina Valenta, and Lazaro). There are TONS of choices, esp in some of the more popular fabrics, like chiffon and taffeta and satin. Since you’re close to NYC, you can also order your dresses from RK Bridal in Manhattan, which would help with the price (they can be expensive)–RK gave us great prices on our dresses when my girls ordered theirs.
