Random question – is there a rule about matching bridesmaid dress fabric to the wedding gown fabric? For example, if my gown is made of satin, should the bridesmaid dress be in a similar material? Or does it not matter?

I hope there isn’t a rule, because my girls’ dresses don’t match my fabric. I really don’t think it matters though.

I don’t think it has to be the same, but some fabrics do clash, so it depends on what you’re considering and the look you’re going for. My dress is satin and my BMs are wearing chiffon and when we compared everything together, it looked fine.

It definitely doesn’t matter, pick what you like!

Thanks for the quick replies! I’m not very good at this weding planning thing, so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t breaking some fashion rule. =)

I was a teenager when my mom remarried. She had a beautiful gown and we were wearing the equivelant of couch fabric….anyway, no, there’s no reason to be matchy-matchy.

@NalaBee: Yes, she swore it was beautiful, we all swore we were wearing a stripped black couch 🙂
