With lace, I think you can do any kind of fabric. Just depending on the theme/formality of your wedding.

I agree.  Any fabric depending on how formal the wedding is…

For garden weddings, I typically imagine flowy chiffon dresses… But, that’s just my personal preference 🙂

Lace holds structure more, like taffeta, so if you want all the gowns to move the same, choose a stronger fabric for them, or a light fabric that’s not as fluid (like organza). Since you’ll be outside, your pictures will show more movement. If you want contrast of movement, choose a lighter, more fluid fabric, like silk or chiffon.

What about a purple dress with a grey sash?

My dress is lace and I chose a very muted gold-tone strapless party dress from Cache for my ladies.  Here’s the link: http://www.cache.com/detail/champagne-lace-dress/O5036C35559670/72

I am very lucky that all my girls can fit in sizes that Cache offers.  I kept one of the dresses in order to test it with my dress and it looks great!  Not sure if this helps or not, but I hope it gives some insight….
