So, I have been a very laid back bride and I’m letting my girls pick their dresses in a color palette. One of my bridesmaids has been a bit of a nightmare and just started looking for her dresses yesterday. Our wedding is next Saturday. Ahhhhh…..
Anyway, here is the dress she sent me to get my opinion. I’ve been really flexible with my ladies (even extending the color palette for them) but I just think this dress is a tad inappropriate for a bridesmaid. She has never been a bridesmaid before, so I’m not sure she gets it.
What do you think?

Wow that is a short dress! When people say short bridesmaid dress I always think knee-length or an inch about the knee, not barely covering the rear end. I would tell her to keep looking.

It seems that you have been very fair and accommodating to your bridesmaids. To tell you the truth, I would be a little annoyed that one of my girls hadn’t gotten a dress by this point.
While I find the dress very attractive, I don’t think it’s appriopriate for a bridesmaids dress. Is your ceremony in a church – if yes, that makes it even less appriopriate.

Yep, I’d say too short. It’s nice of you to let your girls pick their own dresses, but you get a bit of say over what is/isn’t appropriate, I think! And that dress isn’t really wedding-appropriate.

That is definitely shorter than I expected it to be when I clicked on the post! Also, the material looks kind of thin, which makes it look like cute/sexy pajamas. Hopefully she can find something else!

Too short for a bridesmaid dress. my fanny would definitely spill out, but i’m also 5’11”. I think mid-thigh is a “short” bridesmaid dress but still ok. BUT if you are going for a trendy wedding (like what flamingred is going for), then the rules are different.

Thank you! I was feeling like a bridezilla, and she was making me feel like one. I just really don’t think it is appropriate.

Wait, I voted it was too short but I have something else to add. How tall is your BM? Because actually I’m short and the ‘model’ pix of most of the dresses/skirts I buy look like hoochie dresses on them since they’re 7 feet tall, but actually reach my knees. If she’s short, that dress might only be a couple inches above her thigh which would be fine.

woah, yeah i’d say that is tooo short and not wedding appropriate. its nice to have let them pick their dresses but maybe give her length guidelines?
good luck and let us know what the final verdict is 😀

@modern daisy: Good point, she definitely is shorter than model height. I think she is maybe 5’4″? But still…

Oh my goodness! That’s crazy short to me. I wear that kinda stuff on the beach… not a wedding! Unless she’s really short, making the dress fall closer to her knees, this dress would get classified as inappropriate in my book. Who looks for a dress with a week left until the wedding? Ugh, I’m sorry!

I agree with jennifer_espos; my first thought when I saw the dress was that it looks like a swimsuit cover-up. Way too short for a wedding.

If I wore that dress, it would come to just above my knees. I’m 5′. So keep that in perspective.
But if you don’t feel the dress is appropriate, you have the right to say no!

Depends on how the dress looks on your Bridesmaid or Best Man. My BMs ordered a knee-length dress from Nordstrom and most of them found that it was much longer on them than on the leggy 6′ model! Can your Bridesmaid or Best Man try it on and take pics for you?
