I would suggest looking at department stores (Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, etc). Especially if you are looking for black, most every department store has LBDs so I would think that would be the most cost effective.

Not sure about floor-length, but White House Black Market fits the rest of that description.  Ann Taylor might have some too (especially if you have one nearby that carries the Celebrations line) – their dresses go on sale at the end of every season (I got my bridesmaid dresses on their clearance rack – originally $199, marked down to $19.98).

Try J Crew, too.

Jasmine Bridal has some affordable options but you’d need to order them through netbride to reach your target price. Also don’t forget about alternations. Since you want black, I’d definitely go to the stores mentioned above first. Good luck!

Alfred Angelo is pretty affordable – even more so if you go through House of Brides (www.houseofbrides.com).  I like Watters styles, but they can be a bit pricier.  Bill Levkoff has some in that price range too, I think. especially if you are ordering through HoB.

I went with Alfred Sung and they were all under $150 (I picked color, length, fabric and they bought the cut they wanted).  I think Lela Rose is similarly priced:

This turned out to be the easiest b/c everyone just ordered from a local shop or website that made sense to them.  If you go this route, send me a PM and I can let you know some of the lower priced online sites that my BM’s found.   By The Way, all the dresses that have detailing in another color can also be ordered solid color.

I find that JCrew tends to price a bit higher (>$200).  Ann Taylor Celebrations is usually  under $200, but more like $180 I think.
