Hi Bees, thanks in advance for letting me vent!
My girls ordered their dresses back in April and I chose the color “taupe” which I was told by the bridal shop was a light tan/champagne color. My October wedding is now 44 days away and all the decor is already purchased with a “fall” theme. Everything I bought has a fall color – tan, gold, reds, oranges etc. The ring bearer and flower girl outfits have been purchased with a champagne color. My dress has a champagne underlay.
The bridesmaids dresses come in this week. I get a picture from one of my girls wearing the dress and almost fall out of my chair in shock. The color of the dress isn’t even remotely tan or even resembling anything in the brown color family. Its a grayish-purple. I go to the dress shop today to see the dress in person and true to the photo she sent – its gray. I had to change the guys vests/ties from the champagne tan color to “stone” and although the dress is gorgeous and it looks great with the suit I am really feeling like the bridal party look doesn’t even remotely match the rest of my wedding stuff.
A friend of ours graciously donated her time to make all the girls silk flower bouquets and the guys boutonnieres in red/orange/gold fall themed colors. I feel like none of that is going at all with this gray color and I don’t know how to tell her I might not use those flowers now. Opinions please! How do I salvage this and bring it back into the fall theme with the rest of my wedding?

What does the salon have to say about the dress and the swatch being completely different colours? I can understand ordering a dress online and the colours not completely matching because of looking at monitors, but you have an actual swatch the fabric is supposed to be so something went wrong somewhere.
If somethine went wrong on the salons end or the manufacturers end, I don’t know if they can rush order new dresses in time.

I think your bouquet colours still look nice with the grey dress.

if you ordered the dresses in certain color and it came in the wrong color, have the dress shop put a rush order on the corrected dresses to fix the problem. this shouldn’t be your problem to deal with.

pixiecat: The swatch was a I guess “a miscommunication” between the bridal shop where the dresses were ordered and the tuxedo shop where we were getting our guys suits. The dress shop stands by that they did not make a mistake and that “taupe” can be a range of colors from light brown to dusty pink and this is apparently how the bridesmaid dress manufacturer interprets that color. I just wish I knew that before I ordered 🙁

I think the dresses are really pretty, and the bouquets still compliment them!

For what it’s worth, I think it looks fine, and I don’t see an enormous difference between the swatch and the dress. I may be in the minority with that, though.

I actually LOVE the new color- even with the flowers. So classy, and so rewearable. This does not have to be a big deal at all, it looks awesome. You could always compare the swatch to the real color and have them throw in some alterations if it’s really not what you ordered. but I really, really like it. It’s very fall, too! Your bridal party don’t have to match the decor exactly.

weddedbliss2014: the dress doesn’t look terrible with the bouquet. However, I would make a stink about it to the bridal shop and see if they can rush order it as PP said bc its clearly not the color you ordered

Maybe not what you want to hear, but I like the grey even better than the swatch you are holding!

weddedbliss2014: That’s a bullshit response from the dress shop. Yes, taupe can be many different shades that’s why you have fabric swatches. But why are they showing you fabric swatches if they are not directly from the manufacturer and do not actually represent the fabric that will be used?
I do think the dress still works with the bouquet, even if it is not exactly what you imagined. I would leave reiews of the dress shop that the fabric swatches they offer do not actually represent the colour of fabric that is actually used so buyer beware.

JiminyCricket: i don’t see a huge difference either…not in the colors at least. the lighting is completely different in the two pictures so that’s probably why one looks different from the other.
OP: i think the dresses still look great with the bouquets, and the tuxes and dresses look nice together too. BUT, i totally understand why you’re upset; you thought you were getting one color, but what you got isn’t what you pictured. no matter whose fault that is, you still have every right to feel upset.
do you have a pic of the swatch next to the dress in the same picture? that might help to show the difference (or lack of), and if it’s really really different that can maybe help you out with the manufacturers

Honestly, I like the color that came in more than the one in the swatch! The vest/dress combo is awesome! They are netural, they will look beautiful with fall colors. Honestly, the bridesmaids and the decor don’t need to be the same, just complimentary, which they will be! I totally understand your shock and surprise, but they are still very beautiful!

I think the flowers look good with the dress in the photo. Maybe looking at other “grey” fall weddings will help?

I think the dress still works, and I do really like the color.
That said, the shop failed HORRIBLY. At least from the pictures, the swatch and dress DO NOT MATCH. Yes, taupe is generally a gray/brown color, but the swatch you have is far on the brown side, and the dress is far on the gray side. I would not let up about this and make sure to leave reviews if they refuse to do anything.
