I originally wanted my girls to wear chiffon because my wedding is smack in the middle of summer and I didn’t want them to be too hot. But after seeing and trying on dresses in person, I preferred the satin. I just think it looks nicer and it wasn’t as heavy and thick as I had expected.

I saw these exact colors & styles at Alfred Angelo & too am having a difficult time in choosing. I feel the STYLE of the dress may help in choosing the fabric type. Satin seems to be best in a short dress, chiffon in short dresses.

@Jaynee: Thanks for your input. My wedding is a day after yours! I too was thinking satin dresses, moreso based on how they appear in pictures. But I was just advised by my sister (who lives in Oakland) that chiffon wouldn’t be an issue in the summer because it’s so bright that the “dullness” of chiffon wouldn’t even be noticed.

If two of your bridesmaids specifically said they want to wear chiffon and the others don’t care, I’d go with chiffon. I also feel it is more flattering and re-wearable. Also, in professional photography, the chiffon won’t look so washed out and ‘dusty’. Good luck!

I like chiffon more in general but I think I like the idea of satin on longer dresses

I voted for chiffon because fabric-wise, I think it’s much prettier, forgiving, and comfortable. HOWEVER, if you asked us to choose between the dresses you posted, my answer may be different. I don’t particularly love the bottom chiffon option. Have you checked out the Jim Hjelm bridesmaids line? There are some really beautiful chiffon options.

All my bridesmaids will be picking their own dresses…. I just said they have to be satin. I think they will look nicer in photos, and my dress is also satin.

I also voted for chiffon. As others said, its more forgiving and comfortable. I actually own the bottom left dress. I am wearing it in my friends wedding in May. It is very comfortable and it looked good on all of us. I also think that if you have a good photographer that your Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses will photograph well no matter what. Good Luck!!

i like chiffon because i don’t like the shine from the satin. i am also having a hard time finding chiffon dresses in dark purple shades!

The chiffon flows better and is more flattering on all body types than the satin.

for our summer wedding, we’ll be going with chiffon. like @gemini22, I don’t really like the shine of satin. and chiffon has the softer romantic look that we’re going for.
@gemini22: I think I remember seeing some dark purple chiffon dresses (by Maggy London?) for sale at Nordstroms online.

I think I’m going to agree with gemini22 and thesejoys. The chiffon has a more romantic feel. And while the color may pop with satin, the wrinkle potential is a thumbs-down in my book. Good luck!

I like the chiffon, but that is probably because my girls wore plum knee length chiffon dresses. I looked at a lot of dresses and I wasn’t a huge fan of the plum color by Alfred Angelo, have you considered any other designers?
You might check out wtoo, they don’t have a lot in the plum color but they have some really pretty ones. It says that they are 170$ and up but they are not actually that high at most bridal stores.

I vote for SATIN. I’m doing Alfred Angelo long satin dresses. I have a wide range of body sizes in my bridal party and there are so many forgiving satin styles. My goal is to have a classy fall wedding and I’d prefer some uniformity. Definitely pick on fabric. I have purchased the chiffon look and it’s perfect for outdoor garden wedding but if you’re having something more formal, definitely satin. It’s your day so do what makes you HAPPY! And, when you’re bridemaids make you a bridesmaid someday, then I would just return the favor. Good luck to you!
