I think it’s normal for it to look different from the online swatch, but not the actual sample swatch.  You saw another dress by this designer in the correct color in real life, right?  Not just online?  If so, it totally looks like a completely different color.  I know sometimes the fabric of the dress may make a slight variation, but that just looks…wrong.

It definitely looks different, but they usually have a disclaimer about different monitors and colors. If you saw the swatch in person it should definitely match.

Same thing happened when we looked at something on the DB website. Once we saw it in person it was nothing like the sample color online.

I’d be on the phone with customer service.

This happened to the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses for my friend’s wedding.  We remembered the swatch at the store being much deeper, but the dress was more of a true purple.  What brand are your dresses?  I’m wondering if they’re the same brand because those pictures look similar.

The settings on your monitor could very easily make the “online” color not match the “in-person” color (the colors will show up differently on different people’s monitors).

But it should match an in-person swatch or another previously looked at dress (at least closely – different fabrics may lead to slight differences).

This seems to happen with shades of purple. I loved the color of the dress on the websites but the dresses in real life (at the bridal shops) did not turn out the same! I ended up setteling for a shade of purple that I wasn’t in love with but it was the closest I could find.

The in person picture has a lot of natural light whereas the photo of the picture online was more than likely shot in a studio with little to no natural light. That can make a huge difference.

The difference is how the color shows on your personal computer  vs the color in real life.

The only way to know for sure what a color looks like is to get a swatch of fabric before ordering.

@Lynz407: I agree they do seem to be more purple in real life compared to the internet picture. Though the fact that the dress is hung up at the window will make it look lighter. I had Dessy ‘Spa’ dresses in spa (I wanted a tiffany blue colour), they were in chiffon, I must say though the sample in satin looked more tiffany blue. I can’t tell but did you get a swatch?

@Lynz407: For what it’s worth I think you did the right thing choosing purple/Aubergine. Was the material of the sample dress the same material as what you chose? As I posted before and as I found out with Dessy too, I think it makes a difference. It will all still be beautiful, glad you sound positive. P.S. Good luck with the invites – this I found to be the biggest job.

Definitely lighter than than the photo, but I think it still falls into the realm of “aubergine.”

I wanted to order the exact same dress dessy dress in aubergine for my bridesmaids. Do you have any more pictures of your bridesmaids on your wedding day? Was it really that much lighter?
