My mom, MOH (sister), and I went shopping to try on some bridesmaid dresses today (my 2 other bridesmaids live out of state) and a lot of the dresses my sister and I liked have a similar bodice to my wedding dress.
Bodice of my dress:
Bodice on Bridesmaid dress we liked:
Basically a lot of them had the pleating and a sweetheart neckline. My mom kept asking if I wanted it to be that similar. I hadn’t thought of it. And now I’m not really sure how I feel about it.
What do you guys think? Too similar or it doesn’t matter? Or similar and it looks great?!

I don’t think it matters. It’s not something I have ever noticed as a guest.

The simlialrity is what makes the bridesmaid’s dress compliment the bride’s. I’m all for an element of similarity.

Similarity is good in my opinion. They complement each other. Traditionally, bridesmaid dresses were meant to be pretty similar to the bride. The original purpose of having bridesmaids was to “distract” people from kidnapping the bride.

I think its better if it suits, looks like you have done it on purpose! So long as theyre not white I really dont see a problem at all. They are beautiful dresses by the way. I can see why you like them.

AdaLee: I think they go beautifully together! Is that the Lazaro!? It’s lovely. If it is, with the fullness of the Lazaro skirt you won’t have to worry about anyone thinking the dresses are too similar. They will have totally different shapes/fabrics. In photos, the dresses will look wonderful together because the bodice will tie them all together without being identical.

AdaLee: I don’t think it matters, as long as you like both dresses! 🙂

I think the similarities are great. Ultimately though, it doesn’t matter. You’re the bride & you’re going to stand out completely. I personally like it when there’s something similar between the bride’s dress & the bridesmaid’s dresses.

Awesome thanks everyone ! I agree – I like that the similarity ties everything together 🙂

crackktheskyy: Forgot to reply to your question – yep it’s the Lazaro 🙂 and good point. The bridesmaid dress is definitely slim and mine is certainly not ! Haha

I think your bridesmaid dresses look good with your dress…

AdaLee: I like the idea…those look beautiful together.

AdaLee: I think it is nice to incorporate similar designs! I found necklaces for my bridesmaids that were very similar to the beaded/pearl belt I had with my dress. Our necklines were also very similar, but the shape of the dresses were completely different (I was in poofy tulle ballgown, maids were in long slim chiffon), so we didn’t look like we were completely matched. If you were wearing the same silhouette and fabric, it might look a little too matchy, but just going off the neckline I think it would look great!

AdaLee: It’s not the exact same so I don’t see the big deal. I think it is very pretty and flattering.
