I have a 17 year old female cousin who I asked to be a bridesmaid, since she’s the only female relative I have that is close to me in age (I don’t have any siblings). The problem is her family, mostly her mom, doesn’t really talk to my family. There were some problems in the past that don’t involve me, but they end up affecting me since they cause my aunt to not want to spend time with my family. My aunt is a very opinionated and strong willed person, so she controls her family. I haven’t seen her or my cousins in a couple of years, but she did say she wanted to come to the wedding and my cousin was happy about being a bridesmaid. The only problem is that I’m afraid my aunt will change her mind at the last minute and decide not to come anymore because she dislikes my family so much.
Even though my cousin is 17, she will do what her mother says. So if her mom tells her not to be a part of my wedding, she will drop out. I know they haven’t said anything to make me believe they will do this, but my cousin seems to not be interested in being a bridesmaid. I have asked her to send me her measurements so I can order her bridesmaid dress for the past month. Everytime I ask her, she just says “ok” and then I don’t hear from her anymore. This is really making me worried. She lives 3.5 hours away, so I rely on phone and Facebook to communicate with her. Should I ask my aunt if my cousin still wants to be a bridesmaid? Should I ask the cousin if she still wants to? I’m afraid she will say “yes”, but then back out at the last minute. Any advice?
