Are you sure it has nothing to do with how expensive the two bird dresses are?  I think convertable dresses are a smart idea, but two birds are expensive.  There are cheaper ones on Etsy and other places if you look around.

If it’s not about price, then this is a place where the bride puts her foot down.  it should be the bride, not you or the bridesmaids.

One thing the bride gets to choose is the color/dress style (as long as she stays within everyone’s budget).  If the bridesmaid refuses to get it, she takes herself out of the wedding party and can attend as a guest.

I’d advise her about the same.  But I would make it something like: “This is the dress.  It needs to be ordered by [date].”

Tell her not to say too much, because it opens things up to discussion.  If she still tries to argue, the bride should follow up with “I’m sorry, but the decision is final.  If you’d prefer to come as a guest, please let me know as soon as possible.”
