I think this is a situation where being direct and honest is fine.  🙂  I think if you let her know that you don’t feel comfortable going due to the driving concern, she’ll understand it has nothing to do with her.

I think since you are a bridesmaid, you need to make some extra effort to be at her shower. If you can’t find someone to ride with, try to find a friend that will make the trip with you and maybe go shopping or something. I think its important for you to try to make it!

Could you meet someone half way, maybe the day before and spend the night?  Could you take a bus? 

It would probably mean a lot to her for you to be there.

I agree. Can you ask your fiance to ride with you and maybe take himself out to a sports bar to watch some TV during that time?

A train? or a bus?

Your mom or even someone who knows you and your problems with driving distances that would be willing to help you?

I had a bridesmaid like you and she had her boyfriend driver her everywhere. She was at everything. I understood when she had to come late or leave early because her bf had to leave, but she at least came to everything.
