Calijcab23:  That;s what I did only it was black shoes. I had long dresses.

I’ve been a bridesmaid 3 times and picked out my own shoes each time with the stipulation of colour only (black twice and grey once). One of those dresses was long and the other two were short. Really nobody notices the bridesmaid’s shoes anyways.

Calijcab23:  that is what I am doing 🙂 I kind of wanted them to wear heels but one of my bridesmaids is 16 and a big tomboy, so just the dress is a big deal, haha.  So she did purchase dressy ones and I am okay with that 🙂 My sister did it as well, silver too, and it worked great.  I think it makes it so they find shoes they are comfortable in.

I’m so thankful that people think this is “acceptable!” I’m doing the same. I just told the girls to get silver heels with a few rhinestones (or a lot-whatever lol). They are wearing short dresses and a lot of people have told me they don’t think this is a good idea because they won’t “match.” I thought it would look cute if they had the same colors and details. So to answer your question, yes you should do it and it’s very thoughtful of you!

PS-I feel I should mention that this has caused a fight because one of my bridesmaids doesn’t want to wear heels. I thought that if I let them pick their own shoes, there’d be no problems. Go figure…

That’s pretty much whay I told my ladies. I told them black shoes, closed toe, any heel height/style they want and they can be as embellished as they want, as long as they are black, not a print or pattern.

Edited to add: I’ve been a bridesmaid 6 times, and 4 of those brides have just specified a colour (ie black, gold, pink, silver), only two requested something specific (silver heel from Payless, cream coloured crochet skimmer), and only one of them picked a specific shoe for us all (and that shoe/dress combo still cost under $100 which is why she asked).  And I got to re-wear the silver Payless shoes for the other silver requirement!

That’s what I asked my BM’s to do. As long as they were black with some semblance of a heel (no flip flops) then the rest was up to them. Most of them already had shoes they could use. They had knee length dresses and it doesn’t look strange in the photos even though they’re all in different styles. No one is going to notice their shoes 😛
