I know David’s Bridal gets a terrible reputation for poor customer service and low quality dresses, but I am never one to cross something off my list until I’ve checked it out for myself. I actually ended up getting my wedding dress at a David’s Bridal, so I figured David’s would be the best place to start for bridesmaids dresses. Most of my girls were skeptical to say the least, and they wanted to start at the best bridal shop in town. Well, of course we could’ve found gorgeous bridesmaids dresses there, but they were going to cost at least $200, and I really wanted to keep the dress prices a little lower than that for my bridesmaids. So, we made an appointment for 7:30PM on Black Friday at David’s Bridal in Pittsburgh, PA. I was hoping all the crazy shoppers would be home by then. When I purchased my wedding dress, I went shopping on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, so I didn’t really know what to expect for Black Friday. We got there and had the store to ourselves!
I had a few dresses in mind, and I knew I wanted my girls in short dresses. I did have them try on long dresses, but the long dresses just didn’t fit our semi-casual vibe we were looking for. Also, let me state that NONE of my girls have similar body types. I have five bridesmaids and they range from a size 4, tiny waist and small chest, to 5’11” and broader shoulders, and everything in between. I honestly had no idea if anything at David’s Bridal would actually end up being flattering on ANY of my girls, let alone finding a dress that each of them could wear. The consultant pulled my top two picks in chiffon fabric and a short style, along with a few other things just to see how the different styles looked on them. Ultimately, a short, sweetheart neckline chiffon dress flattered ALL of my girls equally! Even choosing a color was pretty simple. We have a September wedding date, and my girls are all different skin tones, so we went with a color that felt like it fit the season and still looked good on all of them- “guava.” It’s sort of a more reddish coral tone.
Before we even walked into the store, I told my girls not to feel pressured to buy anything because we can always look elsewhere or come back again. Our consultant was not pushy at all, although I did preface the appointment by saying we are not necessarily buying today. It turned out that even my most picky bridesmaid with a tall frame and bigger build, felt pretty in the dress. I’ve sort of deemed her my wedding fashion consultant because she tends to know my style even better than I do, so if she liked it, it was a win! Our consultant measured her in private to make sure we ordered the right size and she felt really comfortable with the way the consultant did that for her.
The dresses were originally $139, but the store honored the online Black Friday sale promotion of 10% off the dresses, PLUS $20 off each dress because I purchased my dress at a David’s Bridal! The girls were even happier about the dress when the price came down to around $100! Oh, by the way, my bridesmaids were in and out of the store within 30 minutes! That was probably the best part of the night! Celebratory margaritas were definitely in order!
