I really hate to say this, but I agree with your mom. Maybe compromise with accessories you really love and go with a dress your family loves.

It looks a little 90’s to me… I personally would rather wear taffeta or satin.  Perhaps you can find a seamstress to whip up a dress for you?

@silviamaid: I wore a gown exactly like this in 1997 for Homecoming. It’s very dated, sorry 🙁

@silviamaid: I think you can find something that suits your figure much better and will be versatile to wear again and again. Is it possible for you to order a dress online and then have someone alter it for you where you live? I was looking at some possibilities for you here, following your blue requirement and noting the length of your dress above:

From Macy’s: http://tinyurl.com/7jwfr57

Are you looking for a particular length or neckline? What is your size, price range/limit?

Good luck!

@silviamaid: You’re welcome! The first dress on the link I gave you is quite similar to the chic dress drawing that cubicalmouse posted above that you like so much! Same twisting material in the front, sleeveless, and well within your price range at $180.! I’ll keep scouting around for you.
