I’ve seen some posts on age cutoffs for flower girl versus junior bridesmaid, but not the next tier.
I would really like to have FI’s nieces as either bridesmaids or junior bridesmaids. Due to an older half sister, they will be 17 and 13 at the wedding. The 17 year old is not overly mature for her age and is a little sheltered and naive, and I think I’d like to keep them both with the same title, albeit an arbitrary distinction. Further, I want them to be able to do whatever they feel comfortable with dress-wise, and don’t want them to feel like they have to be overly-involved with everything. However, I also don’t want them to feel any less important.
I’ve seen 15 as a cutoff age for using a “junior” bridesmaid title, but I’m not sure that takes into account maturity and a younger sister. The other bridesmaids will be between 26-30.

hoosierb : There is no cutoff. When you think about it though, what does it matter? What’s the difference between a bridesmaid and a junior bridesmaid? You can call them bridesmaids and still let them pick a different dress. They can be bridesmaids without having to pay for a shower or attend a bar-hopping bachlorette. I would just call them bridesmaids because there’s no reason not to. If it was just the 13-year old, maybe she’d be a junior bridesmaid, maybe not. But with two close in age, I’d just call them both bridesmaids.

hoosierb : If the 17 year old is a bit sheltered and naive, I would make both junior bridesmaids. That way it is equal for both sisters, and the older one doesn’t feel left out e.g. when she can’t drink/attend the bachelorette like the other bridesmaids can.
That being said, it is kind of an arbitrary title. My friend was a “full” bridesmaid for her cousin when she was 11, but I’m sure she didn’t have any of the duties/expenses a regular bridesmaid would.
Whatever you decide, I would give them the same title though.

Why do they need titles? Just call them all bridesmaids. You don’t need a distict title for them just because they are younger.

I had my 13 year old sister as a bridesmaid when I got married. I mean, sure, she was probably technically a junior bridesmaid in some people’s eyes but I don’t really see how the title changes things. She wore the same dress as the other bridesmaids, she walked down the aisle like the other bridesmaids, she stood up the front with the other bridesmaids. She attended the dinner portion of my bachelorette party, and my parents covered whatever wedding expenses that I wasn’t covering.
I’d just call both girls bridesmaids and be done with it.
