So today I hear from my sister that her dress was going to cost $260 (which is ridiculous) to order bcause we are closer to the wedding and they would need to “rush” it. So I called the rest of my 6 bridesmaids and none of them have ordered either! We are 74 days from the wedding and all of them are spread out across the US, with no bridesmaid dress.
So on to Plan B. Everyone goes to their local David’s Bridal and get a dress of their choosing in the color and fabric I choose. At this point, I want them to look good and feel good in what they are wearing without breaking their budget since most of them are traveling. I actually find it a little amusing. My boss is having anxiety for me and someone asked me why I wasn’t getting bridezilla on them. They are my friends and for better or worse, I love them and would rather be friends after this than worry about which dress they are in for my wedding.
Anyone else ever have this happen to them?!

@jalaamarie: Thats a good idea! I was worrying about the same thing. Even one of my bridesmaids lives in Australia and will not be here until a week before the wedding. I couldn’t take stressing about it, so I tried something that I’ve seen posted of mismatched bridesmaids. I said, as long as its floor length and a shade of blue. Get whatever you want. I’ll pull them together with the bouquets and I think the variety will be unique.

It seems to happen fairly frequently, at least to brides here on the bee. I think many people are just natural born procrastinators. They put things off and then it only makes things worse-or at least more expensive.

@jalaamarie: Yes. My wedding is 9-2-11 and neither of my bridesmaids have ordered their dresses. I just decided to let them go to any store and purchase any black dress rather than order their dresses from DB. I doubt there is any chance they’d be here if they ordered them now anyway.

Uh, yeah I gave my BMs 3 months to get their measurements in and I was still tracking them down and calling them to get their measurements in. Pain in the butt! Everytime that I have been in a wedding I was with the bride except once to get the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress so I have never seen this be a problem. I dno’t get it. Just get your measurements and call them in. My Fiance sister had her measrements done for weeks, but she is Out of Town and had to all them in, but I had to text her in the morning and remind her like 3 times to get it done. (she even called the wrong store to order the dress!)

guess im a lucky bee. my bm’s all ordered by the date that i gave them. i think part of it may be because we are all similar in personality- we plan everything out.

My Future Sister-In-Law got her this weekend (my wedding is 9.10.11) and had to pay rush fee, but my BFF (not MOH) decided to tell me last week she hasnt ordered yet, and has no money for it. I went to DB website, found one on “outlet” in her size and color that I could afford. After I emailed it to her, she wasnt sure she would like the back, so I asked for her solution…. Naked? As a guest? Not snarky, but explaining I cant afford expensive, and she cant afford at all. The one online is now on its way.
If you are ever on a time crunch, look at DB website in the normal/sale/outlet THey all three dont always have the same gowns, and if its advailable online it only takes regular shipping time to get there. But they dont always have all colors or sizes ready to ship, and sometimes multiple listings in different prices on what is ready. I took a LONG time looking obviously.

I should mention, the only two that ordered around the time we tried them on ARE married themselves. One randomly had one that still fit from a previous wedding, and is the color and length!! So, I think wedding experience, especially having to be a bride, gets people understanding how and when to order their dresses

Oh gosh! It’s definitely good that you’re able to stay calm about it, good for you! My BMs procrastinated until the last possible day to order their dresses. Then my SIL waited until the week of the wedding to get hers altered. My nerves were shot!

I think it’s partially people not realizing that these dresses can’t be purchased right before the wedding like a regular dress and partially people being lazy, forgetful, or reluctant to part with the required money. Thankfully, my girls all ordered theirs a while ago and one has already gotten hers in. I think mixing styles in the same color is a good solution in your situation. I like the mixed look in general – I told my girls to get whatever they liked in one color from the beginning. 🙂
