I’m getting married in the winter, & my dress is all satin with some lace appliques. One of my bridesmaids told me that because my dress is satin, my bridesmaids should be in satin as well. I figured since I’m putting them in black, they’ll look wintery no matter what, but I really haven’t fallen in love with any satin Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. Is chiffon really a no-no in the winter?

I was in a wedding in December 2010 in a navy floor length chiffon dress. Part of our bridesmaid gift was a gorgeous wrap that helped keep us warm and made it a little more wintery. I thought they looked nice and never even considered that it wasn’t a “winter fabric.”

I’ve heard some people say the bridesmaid dresses need to “go” with the wedding gown, but I don’t see why. As long as all the bridesmaids go together, you can get whatever style dress you want.

You can use any fabric you want. I prefer the bride in a different fabric.
