Just wondering what you guys thought about this combo for bridesmaids/MOH. I’m in love with this first dress, which I’ve decided that for sure my Maid/Matron of Honor will be wearing.
It’s exactly the look and feel I want my wedding to have, and will look great next to my dress (my grandma’s dress from the early 50’s). My problem is that the biggest it comes in is smaller then the size one of my bridesmaids will require. It’s not by much (about two sizes), but I am NOT asking her to lose weight or try to fit into a dress that will not fit her. I want my girls to be comfortable on my day, not worried how they look or feel.
My mom and I have been talking and she found another dress that I think would look ok with it, if I put my Maid/Matron of Honor in the above dress, and the other three maids in this one. The only issue we could have is that the above dress is more of a matte satin, while the other dress is shiney satin. I’m not sure how they would look together, if only one girl was in a matte dress and three were in shiny. Opinions?
Another suggestion was to get the dresses, and have a seamstress add a corset back to them, or other fabric, which I would be ok with, but I worry about how she would feel knowing that we had to do major alterations to a dress just for her, or if a tailor/seamstress could match the purple exactly. If I went that way, should all four of my maids dresses be altered like that? Ugh this is so confusing for me. I want them to be as uniform as possible, but with they’re different body types this is bringing me so much stress!

I think they will look fine together. Is there a way your Maid/Matron of Honor can try her dress on while one of the bms tries the other dress on and see how they look together? Perhaps go ahead and get the Maid/Matron of Honor dress because you’re set on it – and take it when the BMs go to try on theirs.

I think they will look great together! Also can you post a link to where you found these? I LOVE them!!

@kafir: They’re from a company in California, and that’s the only place I’ve been able to find them, so I have to either order them online or take a trip to Cali (where my SO is from) with my maids lol. After talking to my mom and my Maid/Matron of Honor, I’m pretty sure we’re gonna order the Maid/Matron of Honor dress, since she’s a small and the original batch sold quickly apparently, and then we’ll get one of the other dresses to see what they look like together. They have a decent return policy, so if I hate them, I’ll return them!
And I think we’re going to order the biggest size possible of the purple dress, and see what a seamstress can do to it. I really do love that dress, and would love to see all of my girls in it, but I’m not willing to put stress on her to fit a dress for my wedding!
@Ms.GoodEarth: Sure! The top dress is from here:
and the bottom dress is from here

I LOVE the dress you’ve chosen for your MOH! I also think it would be fine to have your bridesmaids in a different fabric or shade. (As a plus-sized woman, I will say that I am not as big of a fan of the bridesmaids’ dress you’ve posted. The higher neckline and very full skirt may present some issues for anyone who is plus sized or who has a very full bust.)

@Brielle: Hmmm I never thought of that (I have average sized boobs so things like that never occur to me!)… I’m definietly sticking with the swing style skirts, but would something lower cut be a better choice? Like this? It would be the same color purple as the first dress, but in a cotton satin. I’m not sure about this exact dress, since I think it’s a little too casual, but just the cut.

We just measured all my bridesmaids… and all four of them fit in the sizes they have! Including the one I was worried about! Once we did the measuring, I realized that I was grossly mis-sizing her. Good thing I don’t have a job that requires me to pick dresses for people based on measurements.
So it’s looking like all four of my girls will be wearing this super cute dress! It will be accessorized with ivory crinoline, pearls and a belt of some sort (maybe) and ivory shoes. And I am SO excited to have found the perfect dress for my best friends to wear!

@cirk: That’s SO perfect!! I was JUST coming back to this thread to tell you that, ironically, the dress you had chosen for your Maid/Matron of Honor would have been so much better for your most curvacious bridesmaid and that if you could find something similar for the bridesmaids (sweetheart, V-neck or scoop neck, but not too low-cut, and with a more defined waist vs. the boat neckline and all of that heavy gathering on the possible bridesmaids’ dress you originally posted), your more curvacious maid would look much better in that. So, the fact that ALL of your girls will be able wear the gorgeous dress you found for your Maid/Matron of Honor is so great!!! 🙂

That dress is amazing! So happy it all worked out. I saw your first post and was thinking it was really too bad they couldn’t all wear the first dress, because the second was just kinda meh in comparison. Yay!
