- Wedding: May 2011
My Fiance and I had our date picked out before we were engaged (about six months before!), so as soon as we had that piece, I asked my girls to stand up with me, letting them know where the wedding would be and telling them I was giving that much notice so they would have time to save up for tickets. That was March, last year. Five of the six girls I asked accepted (plus my sister and FI’s sister whom I am not counting in the number). We got engaged in September, fast forward to January; wedding is five months away. I facebooked each of the bridesmaids reminding them to get tickets as they were at a good price and stuff. At the end of January Jr. Bridesmaid K’s mom lets me know they will not be able to make it out (it’s across country, dad’s out of a job, grandpa just died, unexpected dr. bills). Okay, I understand. Very sad, but I had known from the beginning that it was only a 50% chance she’d be able to be there. Beginning of February, bridesmaid K facebooks me and says she’s really sorry but can’t come anymore because she didn’t realize how much it would cost and school is really busy and she has to take summer school classes and can’t afford to come to the wedding and take classes and it would be too busy anyway. Bummer. Fast-forward to end of February where I send out all the dress material for the bridesmaids to get their dresses made. Everything with other three bridesmaids is good. Fast forward to two days ago when Bridesmaid J facebooks me and says she can’t find any tickets less that $450 and that she is already in debt from school and can’t afford to come and do I have any ideas to make the trip cheaper.
For real? I mean, I get not having a lot of money. I get having a school bill to pay. I get being busy. But seriously? It’s less than two months until the wedding! I asked them over a year in advance so they would have time to put money away if they needed to in order that it wouldn’t be a burden right now. Grrrr!
Sorry…just needed to rant that out. 🙁
