I bought their satin robes with their names embroidered on them for getting ready the morning of (they’re in the wedding colors!) and I will be buying their jewelry for the day of with a cute jewelry dish. I also plan to have their robes hanging on a dress rack in the bridal room on wooden hangers with their names engraved as keepsakes!

I only had one and I shopped for her as if it was her birthday. I got her a bottle of wine and some fun Harry Potter things as she’s a huge fan.

I gave mine robes to get ready in but that wasn’t a gift for them as much as a prop for pictures. I also gave mine cute tea cups/coffee mugs depending on what fit them, and gift cards. They all got a gift card to a certain place they liked. I know people don’t think gift cards are personal but I wanted to get them something they’d like and use instead of wedding props which seem to be passed off as gifts nowadays. In another wedding I was in we got the hangers, jewelry for the day of, etc and I don’t care for most of that type stuff personally.

It isn’t a “gift” if it’s being used for a prop in wedding photos. I’d try to buy them something they can use again in the future or a gift card to somewhere they like.

Buy them gifts like it’s their birthday — something they’d actually want, NOT props for your photos.  In my book, props include jewelry for the wedding day, robes for your getting ready pictures, hangers for your photos, etc…

Can I just ask – who actually wants a hanger with their name engraved?

I bought them individually chosen gifts, based on each one’s taste. Robes to wear for the bride’s pics, jewelry to wear in the wedding, hangers for pics? All of these are for the bride, not the Bridesmaid or Best Man.

I bought them all a pair of earrings and a bracelet (Swarovski and expensive might I add) and all of them were very appreciative and thankful, most of them have worn the bracelet and earrings again so no I don’t think they were photo props and yes they counted as gifts, it’s completely up to the person who’s GIVING the gift.

I know many bees feel that anything for the wedding doesn’t count as a gift but that’s their opinion, not mine. Personally I would love to receive a nice piece of jewelery that I’ll wear again (And I have for weddings I was in) instead of robes or a hanger.

As an aside: For my Maid/Matron of Honor she went out of her way to help with the wedding so I made her a scrapbook of pictures of us through the years (We’ve known each other over 20+ years) and I bought Taylor Swift tickets for the both of us to go in August.

I think all my BM’s were grateful I didn’t go with the embroidered ‘bridesmaid robes’ because they’ve all got at least two hanging in their closets they never touch. Same goes with all the personalized shit they have from previous weddings.

I’ve bought each of them beautiful Pandora earrings. These aren’t for them to wear on the wedding day but they can if they like.

ladyvk :  Taylor Swift tickets! The best type of present 🙂

ladyvk :  If “it’s completely up to the person who’s GIVING the gift” then isn’t “all the personalized shit they have from previous weddings”,  just as good as the earrings and bracelet you chose?

Classic jewelry can be an appropriate gift, but it’s a fine line when the bride chooses something that goes with the theme or color palette of her wedding.

I don’t actually have bridesmaids but a group of my closest friends are throwing a spa day for me the week before the wedding and I’m getting them really dainty necklaces. They’re all a plain gold chain with a single opal bead on it. I’m choosing the color of the bead based on each woman’s personality and tastes. For my Future Sister-In-Law, I’m doing the same style but a bracelet because I’ve picked out a really fancy necklace to give her as a thank you for making our gorgeous ketubah and didn’t want to give her two necklaces.
